Are there any competitons for the average guy with the average hunting rifle?

I have heard about the NRA Sporter High Power division and USPSA is supposed to be coming out with something called the Manual Rifle Division. I am looking for an excuse to shoot the barrel out of my "M700 Tupperware Special". Shooting golf balls at 100 yds and stuff like that is getting dull.

Thanks

I think they have a sporter rifle class in rifle silhouette.
I haven't been to a match yet, but would like to try it with my Ruger M77RL in .250 Savage.

Youcan shoot that in the F class at appropriate NRA matches (prone only??). Typical F guns that I see are scoped bolts, or scoped M1A's. One man was shooting a Rem 700 LTR today in Orlando - I imagine he did very well.

All three, NRA Sporter High Power, F-Class, and Rifle Silhouette would be fun ways to use your current rifle.

Can I use a thin barrelled standard hunting rifle like my M700 ADL in 270? I have fixed the lawyer trigger and free floated the barrel. Will I need a heavier barrel? Is my current 3x9x40 scope enough?

Right now I am shooting golf balls at about 200 paces and hitting them most of the time.

I would say to begin with you can use whatever you want. Once you find a game you like you can decide if you need to change something.

How many rounds with your magazine hold?

We did a 800 yard prone match after one of our highpower matches last season and I shot F-Class with my hunting rifle. F-Class is any sights and you can support the front. I use a bipod. Mine is a bolt gun with a 10x scope. Shot in the 170s I think. Would have been better with a little more scope I think, but it wasn't too bad.
