clubsoda22 November 29, 2003, 08:25 AM Got My HK USP Police trade in from CDNN.
It appears to be one of the first production guns from 1993.
-Four digit serial
-The spring is loose at one end of the guide rod instead of contained in a captive assembly. This changed in late 1994 (who cares? Not a meaningful improvement, adds 2 seconds to reassembly)
-The bore is conventional lands and grooves instead of polygonal. This also changed in late 1994 (another who cares, no real advantage or disadvantage, except for being able to shoot lead, which i don't. I was planning on putting a CCFA threaded O-Ring barrel on it anyway to make, essentially, a ".40 tactical") The bore on this gun is in perfect condition
-The trigger pull is improved (WHAT?!?!) Yes, you heared right, looks like a police armorer did a retrofit. I've shot other early HK's and the triggers were heavier and tended to stack in DA. The improved trigger was introduced in late 1995 and this 1993 gun has it! BOOYAH! That's the only real improvement HK made, and i'm glad that whatever police force it was that bought these guns had the foresight to have it done.
As far as the gun goes, holster wear is minimal and i only found 2 very small scratches. Excellent condition for a PD trade. Very happy with my purchace.
I stopped at wal-mart and picked up 2 value packs, Range report will be up later today!

fnforme November 29, 2003, 03:15 PM These are $399 right? I'm considering one of these, I'd be all over it for sure if they were the compact mmodels. I'm awaiting your range report to help me decide if I should get one :) .
Argh, and I was trying to restrict myself to 9mm and .45 for simplicity.
hksw November 29, 2003, 05:42 PM Excellent find. Did it come with its original 15 round mags?
CB900F November 29, 2003, 09:24 PM Clubsoda;
CDNN? Please explain, where exactly are these available from? Thanks.

10-Ring November 29, 2003, 09:50 PM Yeah, I too have been contemplating one of these police trade ins from cdnn...I'm just trying to get myself around the idea of getting a 40S&W
I look forward to your range report!
mrapathy2000 November 29, 2003, 09:54 PM cdnninvestments.com (http://www.cdnninvestments.com)
download the catalog to find the listing.
this is the second report I have read saying excellent condition.
if I didnt already have 2 40's I would get one or two.
its not the compact model and you wont find much of a difference anyway. shorter barrel and slide and the gun is still kinda bricky and hard to conceal. it was not built with that in mind. the normal capacity magazines are 13 rounders though +2's used to be availible. cdnninvestments has the normal caps but are not cheap.
small request try the gun with variety of ammo in 40. the recoil system in the USP intrigues me. ruger p95 and p97 use the same if not similar system. curious how 180 grain ammo is and the hot 155gr ie remington express 155gr 1200fps/winchester silvertip 155gr 1200fps. how is the muzzle rise from 180gr.
clubsoda22 November 29, 2003, 10:39 PM CB900: that's www.cdnn.com
hksw: USP .40 high caps are 13rds, and no, it comes with 1 10 rd. 13rd mags are plentiful, if you look hard enough you can find them used for under $50 a piece. try auction arms or gunbroker, even e-bay (thoug they will call them 10 rounders on ebay due to policy, they will give strong hints as to actual capacity.)
fnforme: I'm left handed and i got the blued model, so i spent $369, the others are $399.
Range Report: Put 120 rounds through it, 100 flat point FMJ (white box, 150gr) and 20 Hollowpoint (Aguila, Similar to magsafe, very light, very fast). Will soon try corbon PRB as it will be my primary load. Flawless Performance and excellent accuracy. The only gun that was more accurate was my dads 1911 series 70 gold cup national match (understandably as it is a target gun). The HK Beat out my Taurus PT92 and Bersa Thunder in the accuarcy department, though both those guns are very accurate as well. Recoil is managable, though it had a heavier kick than my 9mm and 380 and had a sharper kick than my dads 1911. Such is the nature of the .40. As a side note, both my taurus and my dads 1911 have double spring guide rods which greatly reduce recoil. I was still able to put all the rounds on target rapidly.
Future modifications: As i said, i just got night sights and will install them when they arrive next week. Getting a nearly $700 gun for $400 leaves some room to make improvements, so look out for the HK USP .40 tactical! I'm buying a threaded o-ring barrel from Capital City Firearms (Hanukkah present?) (www.ccfa.com). This should easily give the USP match grade accuracy. I hear very good things about their barrels, super accurate.
Costs so far:
HK USP .40 from CDNN: $370
Transfer Through FFL: $30
3 Full-Cap Magazines: $137

Meprolight N/S: $68
New Gun Costs: $905
I can confidently say that I got a deal. And i still have room to play
Other Costs That Have To Be Addressed:
-Holster/Mag Carrier (Fobus): $53
-CCFA Threaded o-ring barrel: $225
-CCFA Flash Suppressor/muzzle break: $100
Having the most badass looking, not to mention unique gun in the world: Priceless

Why not just buy a USP Tactical .45, Moron?
New HK USP Tactical .45: $1025 (including sales tax 6%)
3 Full-Cap USP .45 mags (harder to find) + baseplate mod so they fit: $300

I love my new HK!
10-Ring November 30, 2003, 01:20 AM If I could get a new Tac for $1k, I would  , but that's another thread. Just to have "TACTICAL" on the slide would be kinda cool tho
Good going ;)
When you get your 40 Tac project completed, don't forget to post some pics! ;)
WhoKnowsWho November 30, 2003, 06:18 AM small request try the gun with variety of ammo in 40. the recoil system in the USP intrigues me. ruger p95 and p97 use the same if not similar system. curious how 180 grain ammo is and the hot 155gr ie remington express 155gr 1200fps/winchester silvertip 155gr 1200fps. how is the muzzle rise from 180gr.
As an example of the recoil reduction. I have a Glock 22, Kahr K40, and the USP40 from CDNN... my wife will only shoot one of those guns, because the recoil from the other two hurt two much. When you fire the USP, you can almost feel the springs working at reducing the recoil felt...
CB900F November 30, 2003, 12:21 PM Clubsoda;
If I understand your post correctly, you are also left-handed. If so, here's something else you may wish to consider.
You can contact H&K via post & request a quote & return # for an ambidextrous operating lever. I have had this done on on my H&K USPc. The cost was, if I remember correctly, about $85 - 90, & the turn-around was quick. The only thing that irked me was the mandatory use of tracked next-day high-cost service for the return of the gun. Added about $30.00 I think.
Thanks for the tip, I might very well pick up another H&K at that price even though I had had no plans to do so.

clubsoda22 November 30, 2003, 02:51 PM CB900: The gun is a left-handed Variant, meaning the decocker is allready on the right hand side of the gun. It doesn't need to be ambidextrous, my dad can deal with what i had to shooting his 1911 for all these years.
BTW: For those of you who are wondering, the finished gun should look something like this: http://www.ccfa.com/hkoring.htm
I'd spend the extra $40 on the button rifled premium barrel if i thought that combat style night sights would provide the degree of accuracy needed to take full advantage of it. I could go with adjustable target sights, but i find that those are superfluous on a combat piece. could never figure out why HK put them on their USP Tactical, that giant front blade looks like it's just waiting to snag on a good draw, also makes it hard to find a goos holster.
For you glock owners who don't know about Capital City Firearms, they make the same barrel for your glocks, and they look just as mean on a glock as they do an HK
355sigfan November 30, 2003, 06:30 PM I know a gunshop selling HK P7M8 with the heal mag release. I am assuming they are german police trade in guns. Prices run from $650 to $1000. Does anyone know who the distrubiter for these may be. I want my FFL to order one if possible.
Pat
clubsoda22 November 30, 2003, 07:27 PM that Is likely to be a P7-PSP. These are e.arly models with a heal mag release, no heat shield on the trigger guard and other such missing features. Still a good gun, but there's a reason it's cheaper than the M8.
I'm angry that i didn't grab an ACTUAL M8 for that price when NJSP made the switch to S&W for political reasons, then switched to Glock because they realized the S&W sucked and they couldn't get their P7's back.
hksw November 30, 2003, 09:19 PM My mistake. Thought you got the USP9.
clubsoda22 December 1, 2003, 03:10 AM No, got the 40. Now i have all 3 of the top service calibers.
Taurus PT92 in 9mm
HK USP in .40
Colt 1911 in .45 (ok, that one is my dads)
Then there's my Bersa .380, but that's not really a service caliber....i think the next purchace has to be a wheelgun or a good rifle.
WhoKnowsWho December 1, 2003, 10:42 AM Then there's my Bersa .380, but that's not really a service caliber....
.380 and .32 used to be a service caliber back in the day, smaller, cheaper, easier to transport guns for European countries that didn't have a ton of money after WWI and such...
rauchman December 1, 2003, 11:27 AM Clubsoda,
NJSP used to use the HKP7M8, then transitioned to the SW99. Didn't work out, now they use the Sig Sauer P228. They don't use Glocks.
Hellbore December 1, 2003, 01:14 PM Do we know if ALL the CDNN USP's have this improved trigger, or is it a gamble buying one?
clubsoda22 December 2, 2003, 03:15 AM Hellbore: There are other people on this board who have bought them, and they all seem to have good things to say.
rauchman: Thanks for the correction, at least i got part of that straight. I coulda swore they went to Glock 22's...then again, what LE agency hasn't. Probably why I thought they went glock. I like the actual choice they made better. :D
rauchman December 2, 2003, 09:32 AM Clubsoda,
No problem. I only know this because I was lusting after one of their used P7's. During my research on trying to obtain a P7, one of the officers at State Police headquarters in Trenton let me know they were transitioning to the P228. I agree, I like the Sig better myself.
WhoKnowsWho February 3, 2004, 01:25 AM clubsoda22: Did you end up getting that stuff from Capital City Firearms?
clubsoda22 February 3, 2004, 04:09 AM Does this answer your question?
http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?s=&postid=745571
Limey- February 3, 2004, 04:23 AM The importer of the P7s is PW Arms in Redmond WA
I thought the NJ State police were issued the M13.
The USPs a very fine piece for $400 got my last one from
a Pawnshop one fullcap 400 out the door!!!gotta love Pawnshops.
Kilroy February 3, 2004, 07:49 AM Utah Highway Patrol carried P7M13s. HK would not sell them replacement parts so the agency had to buy new guns and strip them for parts. Along comes a Beretta rep. who traded them: Beretta 8000D with leather, for a P7M13 with IIRC, five high capacity magazines each.
