I found this chart which i found pretty useful:

Basically it shows the ranges where the loads on the chart vary within a 3-inch (for varmint loads) or 6-inch (for bigger loads) maximum from line of sight, and shows where the peak is as well.

This is cool.
BUT...

The question I have is: what did he zero at? 100 yards? 100 meters? different fo reach load?

See what i mean. Its not too clear form the chart.

SO my question (finally) is:
Does a (free?) program exist that will tell me the following: "for (load X) WHEN ZEROED AT ( X distance), with a scope ( Y distance) above the bore axis, your low points will be (Y distance) at the muzzle and at (Z distance); your peak will be at (N distance) away.

Especially one where I can specify no greater than 3 inches (or whatever i choose) above/below my line of sight!

If.......you adjust your sights so that the 100 yard POI is the value for your cartridge, then the 200 yard POI and MPBR will be as shown in their respective columns.

He referred to this site BigGameInfo (http://www.biggameinfo.com/BalCalc.aspx) as being an online program he used to help with the chart. It does look as if it will give you the numbers you're looking for with your rifle/load info

The "zero" used is the plus or minus amounts at the different ranges posted. Using the 308 150gr load data posted you could sight in at 4 different ranges, +2.7"@100, +3"@135, +1.7@200 and -3"@275 yards. His chart doesn't tell you where point of aim meets the bullet's trajectory, but it does in the program.

This chart (if correct for your rifle and load) tells you that for a deer sized animal, you could sight in 2.7" above your point of aim at 100 yards and stay with in a "kill zone" 6 inches round from the muzzle out to a max range of 275 yards without worrying about hold over or under.
