I would like to load some 75 gr hpbts with Win 748. Does 22 grains sound like an OK starting load? I've seen 21 -1/2 for Varget and H335. Its for an AR with a 1/7 twist. I believe that the 748 is a little faster than h335.

Thanks!

I'd work from min to max in .3gr increments using Hodgdon data. Stop when pressure signs appear.

www.hodgdon.com

I've used Varget, R-15, AA2230 with the 75gr HPBT. W748 should be excellent as well.

This bullet shoots quite well in my 1:9 twist AR at magazine length (2.26in COL).

The only problem is that they don't show data for Win 748 and that sized bullet.

thanks!

I have to guess that an AR with 1 in 7 twist is going to be .223 Rem/5.56 X 45.

A good place to check if you can't find load data on the Hodgdon website is to call. 913-362-9455. It's even local for you.

My old book shows 20-24 grains of Win 748 for a 75 grain HPBT in 5.56 X 45 NATO.

Lyman's 49th says that for a 77gr jacketed HPBT starting load is 22.6, someone on here I am sure knows better than I but I have been taught that you can use a load for a heavier bullet but not the inverse. Within reason of course.
