My grandpa gave me his 101 and I'm curious of its value. He thinks it's from the 60s. I looked around but couldn't find much regarding how to look up the value of one of these...so I assume one of you have a handy book or some uber knowledge that I don't.

Winchester Model 101 12 gauge, serial number 728XX. Decent condition....my grandpa didn't really take care of his guns well so I'm sure it could use a solid clean on all the parts. Should this be blued? Some of the barrel looks like it needs some attention...but I don't know what kind. Simple rub with oil or more? There are a few nicks and bumps in the butt stock. But overall I think it's a sharp gun, really great color and balance and I feel honored to own it. It's a great shooter

There is a huge shadow where it says 'Model 101'

I wouldn't blue it! I WOULD have it professionally internally cleaned and lubed by someone who knew what that were doing on a 101. I'd use tht gun heavily another life time and call it good!

Nice gun really nice wood. As to value on the market? Who cares, you got a good quality gun with features that would cost well over $1000. on the market now.

It’s only downside is it’s a 12 gauge 2-3/4" not 3"

I'd use tht gun heavily

LOL

How else could you use it?

As an added benefit, you will get big biceps and front delts.:D

Yeah I really don't care much about the value, I don't have plans on selling it...this will be my childs gun someday.....I was just curious if it's an 'average' gun or if this is something more 'rare'....

Are 101s still in production?

101s are in production again, but they're not the same guns.

The old 101 has a cult following, but the really desirable ones are higher-grade and smaller-bore.:)

I recently paid $899 for a used but very clean 12ga, 26" 101, made by FN, with 3" chambers and interchangeable chokes.
