Just my humble opinion here but even before the move and pubicity Mr Clements was building best of grade custom handguns of no equal ay half the price of the other swellheaded errr, name smiths.

Calling a .500 a hand-cannon is no exaggeration. Don't own one but have shot one...and have exactly one round of ammo in my collection.

Darn thing weighs almost as much as my P-32. :cool:

Yes I cast bullets for it. The ones in the picture are a 430 gr. WFN LBT from a friend's mold. I also have a similar design from NEI that casts a 420 gr. as well as the NEI 460gr. SWC.

No question, it is a gorgeous revolver. I may have a similar conversion done to my Bisley, although the silly thing shoots so well, I may just leave it alone.

Unless it's magnaported, no thanks. The .454 Casull battered my wrists and the .500 Linebaugh will probably do worse. A good man's gotta know his limitations. Pass the 22 Bearcat please.

For me, I will take recoil over muzzle blast any day. You can always wear PAST gloves while shooting or hunting, but it's darned inconvenient to wear hearing protection in the field!

Although I have several hundred of the 460 gr NEI #373 SWC bullets cast and lubed I have yet to load any.
I have thus far only put 250 rounds through the .500 Linebaugh and most of those have been the ones shown in the pictures with the gun.(LBT WLN 430 gr.) The balance has been NEI #375B.
Cas from the Sixgunner message board was kind enough to share some of his data with me on the big SWC bullet so I will be getting to them soon.
As far as looks, The big 460 gr. SWC is impressive. They do however take up a lot of room in the case.
So far with the LBT bullet the lightest load I have shot is 30 gr. of H4227 and the heaviest has been 32.5 gr. of H110. The latter will get the 430 gr. bullet to 1300 fps from the 5.5" barrel.
I know the gun can take more but I am not sure I want any more.
The heavier loadings stop being fun for me.

Hi 4v50 Gary,

If you have fired a .454 Casull with heavy loads you would have no problem with the .500 Linebaugh.
I wear Past padded shooting gloves with everything from a .44 mag on up. They do make a huge difference.
A .454 Casull with heavy loads has a sharp recoil and I find the recoil from the .500 Linebaugh is heavy but not as sharp.
" It kinda comes back slow, giving you time to get your head out of the way.":D

fiveshooter, our mould for the NEI #373 bullet belongs to cas. We size these bullets .512 and lube with LBT soft. We've sold very few of them. I would think one of those at 900 fps would just about shoot through my house.

A bullet that heavy does not need a lot of velocity to penetrate.
I am surprised you are not selling more but I guess most people that shoot .500 Linebaughs also cast their own. I plan on working with the big SWC in short order and I plan on keeping all loads under 1200fps(depending on recoil perhaps WELL under).

About a year and half ago my wife and I met John Linebaugh in Wyoming and went shooting together. John is about the nicest gentleman gunsmith you will ever meet. I enjoyed the afternoon so much I tried to pay him for all the ammo we burned up, but he wouldn't take a cent. I decided right then and there I had to have some of his work. So we purchased two Ruger Bisleys in .45 LC and got in line with the others waiting to have John complete the .500 conversion. Last July we were in the crosswalk in Cody, WY when this guy pulls up and yells out of his truck window "Hey mista . . wanna buy some guns" It was John!

Knowing we would be in Cody that week he and his son Dustin put in a little over time and got our two stainless 5 1/2" .500's finished a little early. We proceeded out to the range and the three of us had a great time. There are two other people in Cody with some very special talents. Dennis Friedly is a friend of John's and he makes incredible knives, including the one shown here. Keith Seidel is probably the finest saddle maker alive today, so when it came to wrapping John and Dennis's work there was only one choice. A few months back we all went out to dinner and I have to tell you that it was pretty amazing to sit and listen to the masters talk about their art. So if you will allow me I will share with you what took two years to complete.
