How do I disassemble a M14 magazine without damaging the floorplate?

Insert the nose of a bullet into the hole in the baseplate and gently pry while pulling baseplate to the rear. This is best done with the cartridge in the palm of your strong hand with primer to the pinky finger. Place your thumb on the rear of the magazine body. Once the little lip clears the rear of the mag body, you can grab it with your fingers and slide it off to the rear. Do NOT pry too hard or you will bend the baseplate.
