I received a new ram spring clip from RCBS today. But I cannot figure out how to put it on. Can someone help this addle-minded old man? Thanks

Put the little bent end in the proper hole and snap the rest of the spring into the ram's groove.

I am doing something wrong. I snap the spring in and then the shell holder won't snap into place.

Now you need a new ram, as yours has been modified.

"you need a new ram, as yours has been modified."

Yep. That angle cut in the shell holder slot is weird, the sides of that slot should be parallel. Call RCBS Customer Service, they will likely give you a new ram or sell you one cheap.

The ram came that way last fall. I sent the pics to their tech lines, still waiting on a response.

"The ram came that way last fall. "

If that ram came from the factory that way they do indeed owe you a new one. And, it's only the first time you may have seen why RCBS needs such a good customer service" policy.

The ram came that way last fall. Not what i am used to seeing. Does look very different to what i have owned over the years. What model is the press? How old?

Just got off the phone with RCBS. I wasn't getting the clip seated around the shaft, had to push it in with a screwdriver. IMO the spring needs to be a tad longer so it has more to latch on to.

My call dropped before we finished, so I didn't get to ask about the opening. As near as I can tell they machined it like that. I assume to make it easier to swap shell holders. One of the many "improvements" to the press. :banghead:

Yes, their customer service is great. But that doesn't make up for poor design and workmanship. I waited for years to buy an RCBS press. They are now riding on their reputation, which isn't a good business model.

Didn't Glen Zediker, in [U]Handloading for Competition[U], suggest using rubber bands instead of spring clips so that the shell holder seats more consitently?
