Springfield XD Slide

I am debating a purchase of a Springfield XD, and here is my question...
Is there a website that sells the stainless slides if I should choose to go with a stainless slide at a later date?
I have looked at the XDs via pictures and it seems the serial number is on the frame, so I do not see why selling the stainless slide alone should be a problem, but every search I do I cannot find any for sale.
Are they just not sold anywhere? Is it not possible?

Thanks.

You should check with Springfield. They offer replacement parts for their guns, and a slide can be replaced. I know S&W sells slides sperately, so I'm going to go on a limb and guess that Springfield does as well.

I seriously doubt you can just buy a slide, it will probably have to be factory fitted. You have two, better options. You can have the slide bead blasted to remove the black oxide finish. The Melonite treatment makes the steel impervious to corrosion. It will be a "silver" finish with better corrosion resistance than stainless. Or you could have the slide plated with hard chrome, nickel or NP3. Either of which would be well under a hundred bucks and presumably much less expensive than having another slide fitted. If Springfield will even do it.

Accurate will do your slide in hard chrome or nickel for $68.

are you looking at used? Springfield sells the XD and XDm with a stainless slide. Just buy one of those.

thanks, i appreciate all of those ideas, i will look into them.

well, i found one of those "Essential" XD packages where you get the XD package minus the holsters you wind up replacing anyway, for $400. can't really beat that price. unfortunately i only find those deals in the all black versions.

the essential's package is only for the black on black xd's. there is no website or company that sells , ss slides for the xd.

the serial number is on the frame, slide, and barrel.

I just wonder why you do not simply by an XD with a stainless slide to begin with. Of course, if you choose to go with a black finish for now, I am almost certain that this could be removed in the future. Unless I am mistaken, it is all stainless underneath.

I bet that SA could do this for you.

Replacing a slide would certainly be more expensive than simply having it refinished.

In my experience...the slides do not need to be fitted.

I have 2 XD's and have swapped slides on them many times with no issues...XD's are very loose fitted.

I'm not interested in complying with your sarcastic request.

(learn to use the search engine on this forum, I've only posted my experience concerning this about 50 times ;) )

fmj,
I have been around this forum for a while, and i know all about the search function. However if you are not willing to state your issues for the 51st time, maybe you shouldn't post anything about the topic in the first place. unless you are trolling of course. it makes little sense to me that you would be a member of a forum, state your view or opinion and then not feel like filling everyone else in on the why.

if this forum is so taxing for you to explain yourself, maybe you should look for another past time. every time i make a comment or a post, i tell the why and the how, and if not in the original post, if and when someone asks then i let them know no matter how times i have done so. which is a common trait of people who aim to contribute as opposed those who only detract form it.

^i can post what i like, wether you like or not (and despite your tenure ;) )

that may change if you were ever to take ownership of this forum--but i don't see that happening.

you should take a look at your sarcastic posts, the answer as to why i'm not answering your question lies within (quite obviously).

I feel your pain, my wife wanted a XDSC 40 with a stainless slide and I like to have never found one. I even asked several local shops if they could order one and they all came up short.

I wound up buying a slightly used one from Gun Broker, it was the only SC 40 on GB, I over paid a little for it especially with the transfer figured in, but I have a policy about buying my wife guns.........Yes Ma'am

Just go to Gun Broker and search Stainless XD a FEW (7 right now) will come up. Hope you find what your looking for.

Good Luck

BTW:

The XD my wife has did have to go back to Springfield one time, the slide release locked the slide back with rounds still in the mag. It only did this three times, in a row I might add. I shot a couple hundred more rounds through it with no problems. But the wife wanted to call them and inquire any way, they asked for the gun, paid shipping both ways, replaced the slide stop, the SS spring and replaced both mags, they had the gun back to me in less than 2 weeks. I have not had a problem since. Their CS is beyond great, in the event you need it.
