WASR Bolt Carrier

What material is is the bolt carrier on a WASR?

I'm guessing stainless or chrome plated steel. The reason I'm asking is because I'd like to polish one up. However, I'm a bit concerned about rust. Seeing as if it's simply unprotected carbon steel it'll rust in no time.

It's just regular ol' steel.

It will rust if you polish it.
