There was an explosion and fire at the Nosler plant today and first reports are that the plant was destroyed, but that all 100 employees escaped safely. Here is a link to the story: http://www.ktvz.com/news/23772491/detail.html

Very bad news. I like Nosler bullets for both handgun and rifle use.
I'm glad to hear all 100 employees got out OK, that's a very good thing.

I heard the blast and didnt learn until 2 hours later what had happened. Hope they get on track rather quickly for the sake of some of the folks I know who work there plus all who use their product. Dont feel too secure when I hear the B.A.T.F. has to get involved.

Just a few days ago my wife and I were talking about making a trip to the Bend area, and I usually stop in at Nosler to buy a few factory-second bullets. I guess I won't be doing that for a while.

The important thing is that nobody was badly hurt- sounds like their evac plan worked well. Hopefully they can rebuild quickly and get everyone back to work.

I toured the Nosler plant twice, back when they had public tours, and I was in the ballistics lab both times. It was a great facility and some really nice people.

It's pure speculation on my part, but since the story says it started in the ballistics lab, my guess is it was started by a flash fire of unburned powder in front of the shooting bench at the entrance to the tunnel. This is pretty common on indoor ranges when they don't wet mop the floors as often as they should. There can be quite an accumulation of powder on the floor directly in front of the benches. On outdoor ranges the wind and weather pretty much take care of it, but on indoor ranges it accumulates, especially if there are cracks in the concrete, such as stress seams, etc.

And as I said, this is pure speculation on my part.

Just read this on KPTV.com, good news is everybody is out safe but sounds like they are going to be out of work for a while.
