Have any of you guys in Chicago done something like those college students did? As in openly carry an empty pistol holster while walking about everyday activities? Or if someone does that, will you get thrown to the ground?

I have to tell you honestly that I don't know if you'd get much attention. There are enough LEOs and security guards running around the City with guns strapped to their hips that it doesn't garner much attention to see someone carrying. Most assume, probably correctly, that anyone with a holster is actually authorized to carry.

Things definitely need to change here, but I don't know that carrying an empty holster is even likely to get you noticed.

Unless part of a group protest, I would think an empty holster would make you a target for bad guys that DO carry guns in Chicago.

What it would take is a march, with empty & holstered handguns (old junk or airsoft, because they're going to be confiscated) to city hall and forcing the Chicago PD into mass arrests, then disputing the charges on 2A grounds. It worked for civil rights...

Actually it would work much better to dispute the charges on First Amendment grounds.

I had to go to chicago for some class work, and I did the same thing i do 24/7 on my regular campus, carried an empty pistol holster and mag carrier. On my regular campus I usually carry mags in the holders as well.

I don't get much attention on my regular campus but in Chicago I got lots of looks. Sometimes people ask me about it, and I enjoy the opportunity to educate them.

I strongly support an open holster anywhere you can't legally carry. Why not?

I'd advise looking up the Chicago and IL threads here and contacting any of the RKBA organizations for the state and city. Work with them to organize an empty holster rally and do it in numbers as a visible protest and educational opportunity. Much easier to stay safe in numbers when protesting.

I have not need or desire to go Chicago.
Around here if you are wearing an empty holster someone will ask you where is your pistol.

I think the purpose of forcing the city of Chicago into mass arrests over the issue is precisely so we can fight for our 2a rights... Using the 1a. Grounds for fighting the charges would be based in both amendments, not just one or the other.

I would stay out of Chicago unless you are familiar with it, and know what parts to avoid. Many of the tourist destinations are suffering from young gangs of thugs beating and robbing people at night. They are way short of Police.
