I started collecting mags a few years ago. My IPDA guns have 5 mags minimum & I've got a few that have 10 mags. I only have one semi auto w/ only 3 mags.

If I run across some for my Beretta for a good price I'll usually get them. I eventually want another 92FS and a Storm so they'll come in handy.

Two magazines (one to put in the gun, of course, and one for a reload) is the minimum you need.

By "combat" gun, I presume you mean the one you carry most often, and might have to use "the hard way". I keep over 10 magazines for each such gun. I keep two sets of three as carry units (hi-caps if they're available), and then two sets of three for training use. The training mags get a lot of use (including being dropped, kicked, etc.) during training courses, so I separate them from carry mags (also, I use 10-rounders for training, reserving the hi-caps for carry).

For a gun that isn't a first-line CCW piece, I relax, and go for five or six mags at most. For those I shoot relatively little, I'll drop to two or three mags.

On Duty:
I carry 2 single-stack weapons , so that's two mags. Add 2 spares on the duty belt and 1 in the glove box; that's 5 mags with a total still of only 40 rounds.

Off Duty:
Total of 2 mags (8 rounders)

I train with what I carry: no switching.

Owning a semi-auto with only 10 mags?
Can you do that?
It just sounds so wrong.

three is enough for me

For my carry weapon, its 5 mags, but I generally keep two for carry, and 3 for practice. (That way the carry mags don't get used, the springs weakened, and reliability compromised.)

For IDPA -- I must have 20+ mags for my collection of CZs used in IDPA. They all use the same mags.

I have three mags for all of my mag-fed weapons.

I plan on getting more for my Hi-Power and my 1911.

9 magazines for my 1911. I use 4 of them for defensive loads and the other 5 for range work.

Unfoturnetly, I have only 3 for my USP (Expensive! ) 2 for carry and one for range work.

125, give or take. 54 in service as range mags, 5 with each carry pistol,
and the rest kept sparkling clean and fresh in reserve.

Can anybody say...Obsessive/Compulsive?

Actually, we used to be schitzophrenic, but we're okay now....

Cheers!

I have 4 for my KP-90 Ruger, and 2 for my Springy 1911. I need a bunch more for each.....

Although, if I am in a spot where I need more than 3 mags, well.....maybe I should be using something else than a handgun.

Q: How many mags do you want?

A: How many do you have?

I answered 10 or more. While I don't have THAT many for each of my semi-autos, I think that you can never have too many.

since i never buy new firearms until i have enough mags and parts to last me(should they become unavaliable) for the ones i have i put 10+. it's great to have a bunch of autos but if you can't afford to fix them when you need to it defeats the purpose of ownership.

with 4.95$ O.E.M. mags for the 1911 it's very hard not to just buy 50 in one fell swoop and settle my mag needs once and for all.

Ten or more for me for my most shot calibers (.45ACP and 10MM). For several reasons:

1) Quantity buy discounts
2) They can rotate through all my 1911 pistols of the same size
3) I like to bring loaded mags to the range so I don't have to fiddle with loading them there
4) Ya just can't have too many mags

5 is what I currently have. 3 15 round + 2 10 round (came with gun).

I can fire 66 rounds with out reloading mags. I figure I won't carry any more than that. If it is a SHTF situation I will hopefully have my AK and will be carrying 160 rounds in mags with it. 4 30 round + 1 40 round.

That's 226 rounds. If after expending 226 rounds, I don't have at least a little time to reload mags it probably won't make any difference anyway.

For my primary SD guns, I like to keep two mags loaded and keep another two resting empty, rotating them every 6 months. If they are affordable, I pick up another two for backups. This is especially true for hicaps in case they ever become unavailable.

I also engrave numbers on my mags so I know which is which.

Minimum of 7 magazines: four reserved for carry only; three use only for training/practice. I swap out the current carry mags and ammo every couple of months just to reassure myself about function. The training/practice mags take the beating and help keep the carry mags in good condition.

10+. Mags are disposable: they break, they get lost, etc.

6 for my Bullseye guns. I don't like to load magazines during a stage.
10 is a minimum for fighting guns, and more is better.

Purely for "combat" = self defense, right?
For my little Bersa .380, three 9-round mags.

I'd love to buy five more.

If I can get full capacity...usually 5 per + 2 Brady Cap's for range use.

If post-94 model, I generally try for 7 Brady Cap's.

The more the better.

A dozen or more for the Makarovs. 6 factory mags for the Ruger, and I'm comfortable with that. 2 factory and one Promag for the CZ, and I regard that as a minimum.

I have one Glock 17L, one Bubits stock and nine mags (3x17, 2x19, 1x31, 3x33). I plan to turn the 31rd mag into a heavy mag for static matches by replacing the long spring with a short 17rd one and filling the gap with a steel block. Then I'll have to buy another 33rd one and a few more 19ers.
