I sent a set of Ruger GP-100 grip insert to Vu Kimson http://www.handicraft-vn.com/shop/ and he just recently sent me these fine GP-100 grip panel inserts.

The first thing I did was inspect them closely. I noted that one set was made of horn and the other made of bone. Both sets were beautifully made. They fit the rubber grips perfectly. However, the bone grip was slightly thicker than the horn grip. But when installed in the rubber, it was undetectable.

The only difference I could actually identify between all the panels tested was a difference in weight. When installed, all three panels performed the same when shooting, due to the design of the grips themselves. So, the only real difference is aesthetics and weight. The factory wood panel weighed
in at .6 oz., the horn panel was .8 oz. and the bone was a whooping 1.8 oz., yes 1.8 oz. All panels were weighed with the ferrules installed.

The only issue with the panels were the ferrule holes. It was cut the same size as the ferrule. This required a touch of glue to hold them so they would not spin when trying to install the screw. Simply making the hole slightly smaller will resolve this.

Id say these grip are certain worth having, because they are beautiful and add to the looks of an already fine handgun.

The pictures, while excellent, don't do these panels justice. They are truly works of art, which my "truck gun" (seen in the pics :)) ain't worthy of.

I like them. I don't have a GP-100 but if I did I would consider those panels.

I purchased two sets of black (buffalo horn) grips for a Springfield 1911 and a Kimber 1911. They are FANTASTIC!!!

Almost makes me want to get a Ruger, and see if the grips feel any better. :)

I daresay the reason the holes were oversized is that bone and horn are more brittle than wood. The ferrules may not press in easily, or might end up cracking the panel if they do.
