Will a pellet gun .22 cal (1100fps) or .177 cal(1500fps) that generates 30 foot pounds of force be sufficient for killing a coyote a 20-30 yards?

I wouldnt think so. They are not thick skinned but thats really pushing it and more akin to torture really.

What about a .25 same foot pound but only 950 fps

The energy isn't there. Velocity doesn't matter worth a squat when your projectile is so light. You probably won't get the penetration to do more than wound. 30 fp of muzzle energy? A 30 Gr .22 will have just over 100 fpe and is considered to be about the minimum for yotes at close distance. Cutting that energy by 1/3 is just cruel.

You can get a powerful air gun to kill a coyote, but it will be very specialized equipment.

I hear the .50 cal will do the trick. Check out Pyramid Air.

There are several airguns that will take animals easily up to deer and larger. The quakenbush guns and barnes pneumatics will.

Seems like by the time you get to the size and $$$ to get a pellet gun powerful enough to reliably kill dogs, you would do just as well to go with a crossbow.

I've taking out feral cats with head shots at no more than 75 yards with both a 22 cal pellet and a .177 pellet rifle.

Google "Gamo hog" and you will see some serious pellet rifle hunting
