I'm tired of hearing about all this nonsense like "OMG I tried shooting 357 out of a 340 and my wrist hurts now :( I think I'll stick to my 642 because 2 oz. makes such a huge difference in recoil." Will everyone please just accept the fact that the M&P 340 is the king of CCW snub nose revolvers. Yes it is more expensive, but is has a cool "Military and Police" symbol on it, a XS Big Dot sight and it shoots 357. When all your friends that don't know about guns ask what kind of gun it is you can say it's a 357 even though you only shoot .38s out of it. M&P 340 is the gun a man carries while the 642 is what his wife keeps in her purse. That is all I have to say about that.

I like the 340 M&P also.....gf has the 360 M&P but she sticks to .38 spl's....+P's for SD, standard pressure for practice. You only have to slam your hand in a door once or twice to realize it hurts and that is about as close as you can get to experiencing .357 mag's in a revolver this light. It doesn't bother my wrist but certainly takes it's toll on my finger.

A fanatical devotee.

My 340 doesn't mind hanging with her 642.

Well I have a 340PD model and its a great gun, mine has LG-405 laser grips as well.

I shoot .357's out of mine and some .38+p as well for range practice. I can control and get good fast follow up shots with 125gr Remington Golden sabers in .357 and I like the Speer 135gr Gold Dot load in .357 as well.

I know some say the speer offering is only .38's in a .357 casing, however I've shot both side by side and to me the .357 ones have much more punch, recoil and are louder than the .38+p offering from speer.

All in all I think the 340M&P and PD are great guns but if the 642/442 are considered "the gold standard" then wouldn't that make the 340/360 series the platinum series?

And while your blinding yourself with flash and have slower follow up shots from the recoil with the 357, the rest of us will have less flash and deliver 5 hits in a tight group quickly.
Dont get me wrong, I love the 357 and beleive there is a time and place for it, but for me, CC is not it unless it steel or a 3'' barrel.;)

The "King of the Subbies," is the one you can load, and shoot 5 shots, in 5 seconds, at 5 yards, and keep all the holes at point-of-aim in a 5-inch circle.

Of course you can do this using 158-grain, full-house, .357 Magnum loads.

Personally I'm a wimp, who shoots .38 Special's in a .38 chambered revolver because I'm to lazy to clean the fouling out of the longer .357 Magnum.

This is not to say that I don't like the Magnum, but not in an aluminum & cheesecake snubby... :uhoh:

Do as you wish, but I not impressed. ;)

M&P 340 is the Most Awesome Snubbie

Wrong! SP101. :D

But the 340 is a close second for me. Depends on the application. If it came down to pocket carry, I'd go 340 every time.

M&P 340s are for people that can't afford the 340PD.

2oz lighter, baby!

Ah, I'll take my 9x19 packin' 11 rounds of 115 grain JHP at 1263 fps without all the noise and fireworks, weighing in at 14 unloaded ounces, but okay, it's not a snub. My snub is a 17 ounce .38, good enough.

well rm86 lets not discount the 360 chiefs special. I only say that because I ordered one from buds police supply a few days ago for 607$. 13 oz, capable of 357, although I am pretty much with the rest, it will be shooting mostly "lighter" loads. I definitely see the value of being capable of 357. I may change my tune after I shoot it, but that's where I stand at the moment. My only dilemma now is how I plan to carry it concealed

You can keep your ultralight laser sight five shooters. This is the king of snubbies:
