I've seen $1200 rifles with $50 scopes, and I'm considering putting an $800 Leupold EFR scope on a $200 Savage rimfire. What's your most disproportionate setup? What's the worst you've seen?

I've got a $30 NcStar Extended Eye Relief scope on a $200 Swiss K-31. I tried a $200 Leupold Extended Eye Relief Scope on this rifle but just couldn't get it to focus properly with my glasses on.

Disproportionate is easy to attain and when it comes to optics, I would rather err on the side of quality than crap. I have a $450 S&W M&P 15-22 with a $660 Aimpoint red dot and a $1600 Gen II NV scope, plus several other features including $60 bipod, $35 Solarforce IR light, $180 Surefire white light, $8 sling.

It has been my experience (and I know there are exceptions) that poor optics can turn a very good gun into one with unreliable POA/POI relationships but that a quality optic can help a shooter get the most from the gun and the best part is that a quality optic can be moved between platforms over a long service life.

Once had a 6-24x50 NCStar on a chopped (not by me) Swede Mauser.

Got the greatest groups of my life (so far) with that rifle. :)

Rem 700 in 7mm RM, with a 3-9 x 30 Tasco $30.00 Wal-Mart special

I also had an Eotech on a M48 Mauser, but I took it off cause it looked ridiculous

I have seen A Swarovsky on A Marlin lever action. Looked good to me.

I really have no problem with putting high dollar scopes on relatively inexpensive guns. Had a Leupold VXIII on my $100 Remington 597 for a while.

My $200 Old Model Single Six wears a set of $220 claro walnut grips on a $100 retrofitted XR3 grip frame and rides in $200 worth of leather.

I recently ploped a Nikon Monarch 3-10x42mm on a commercial Mauser that I picked up for $200.00, but that is destined for a re-barrel, thus bringing up the cost of the rifle. I have a Kahles CL 2-7x36mm scope waiting on a Marlin 1895, and a Nikon Monarch 6.5-20x44AO waiting on a new Savage .17HMR. I consider all of those fairly mismatched, but I would rather have nice optics than outstanding rifles with poor quality optics.

Better an expensive scope on a cheap gun than a cheap scope on an expensive gun.

You can never go wrong getting the best glass you can afford-----while a cheap rifle might just shoot circles around the expensive one.
