My understanding is that the all pre-1891/30 (and derivatives such as the M-38 and the M-44) models are definitely more rare and of much higher collector value......not only the 1891/30 production was the largest but the Soviet Union canniballized big amounts of pre 1891/30 actions (the famous Hex receivers) turning them into 1891/30 rifles....actually I never seen an original M-91 rifle or any pre 1891/30 model (the ones with the rear sights set in Arshins and the "naked" blade front sight)

Is my assumption correct? What is the value of an original M-91 rifle nowadays?

Well, I got mine for seventy five bucks, but that was a long time ago. There's a Finish capture on Gunbroker right now for $795, and a beat up Westinghouse for 360.

You can still find standard Russian M91's from the WWI era for under $200. But in general they are getting more expensive. The really pricey ones are the rare subtypes.

Russian mod 1891 Mosins are around, but you don't see tons of them like the 91/30s.
Value seems to be $150-the sky's the limit, depending on year, arsenal, particular markings, and of course, condition, condition, condition.
Generally $150-$300.
Here's a couple of mine:D

Most Model 1891 Mosin Nagant Rifles were converted to Model 91/30s by the Russians prior to WWII.

The Finns captured, bought, or acquired tons of them. They were reworked into more accurate rifles by the Finnish armorers.

A very few Model 38 and Model 1944 Carbines utilized Model 1891 receivers.

There was no issue bayonet for the Model 1938. The Model 91/30 used a modified Model 1891 bayonet. Neither the Model 91/30, or the Model 1891 bayonets were issued with sheaths.
