I just picked up a .22 revolver and was trying to find some information. From what i have read here it is a 4 screw K-22 maybe a pre-17 model. It has a 4" barrel and I did not find a model number inside the frame as the newer ones have.

The serial number is K11484X and it includes the gold box with no paperwork. The grips did not match numbers to the frame serial number, but are in excellent condition. There is a little thinning of the bluing at the muzzel and turn rings.

Can anyone give me and estimate of the DOB? Approximate value?

K-22 Combat Masterpiece.

It later became the Model 18 when they started numbering them in 1957.

That one was made in 1952, or three years after it's introduction in 1949.

3rd. edition of SCoS&W list EXC = 425 VG = 350 Good = 250.
Although those prices are dated and were probably low when the book was printed.

Your best bet of finding the actual "todays" value is to look for similar ones on auctionarms.com or gunbroker.com. and see what they sell for.

RCModel,

Thank you for the info on the DOB. Yes, I checked on Gunbroker for the value, but there are so few of the 4" combat masterpiece that have sold to get a good idea. Maybe that is a good thing...

They seem to be $500 to $600 guns around here in 90-95% condition -without the box.

There was one for sale on the Cheaper Than Dirt auction site iirc, but it had the box and everything else. The asking price was $1500. I didn't go back to see if it ever sold.

A minor point, but just so you know . . . your gun is a 5-screw, not a 4-screw. Four screws hold the sideplate (you can see 3 in your photos, and the other is under the grip). The other screw is the one in front of the trigger guard.

S&W dropped the upper sideplate screw (the one next to the rear sight) first, then a few years later dropped the trigger guard screw, resulting in the current 3-screw configuration.

Dick,

thanks for the information on the screws. I counted and only saw 4, I didn't look under the grips. thanks again for all the information.

This one has the gold box but no paperwork.
