I just bought a large Bowie at a pawn shop that says "Handmade by Saburo Knives in Japan, Individually Numbered" on the base of the blade. Anybody know anything about this brand? I paid twenty bucks for it. Did I get shafted?

Does it have a slot through the blade and is the grip wood or is it hollow handled?

If it's subdued with the hollow handle then any price is too much. If it's the polished blade with the wood grip, it's an interesting looking wall hanger.

What makes it so bad? (This one has the wooden grip)

Saburos are just cheaply done. Cheap materials that aren't well heat treated nor well put together.

Whether you got cheated or not depends upon what you want the thing for.

They can be impressive looking, but I wouldn't try to put it to use as a knife.
