Went cruising the local gun shops today, and spied a used Ruger Vaquero in .357 magnum, blue finish. Looked clean, marked at $475. I see they retail new on Ruger's site for $679, so it seems like a good price. Is there anything I'm missing? What should I look for if I'm serious about buying?

you could get one cheaper. thy sell new from one of my local gun stores for $500 or on buds as well free shipping;
Check on Gunbroker and others online for used and see what their prices are. Hey $475 seem fair to me I just droped $715 for a New Vaquero Montado today a my Local Gunshop and would have been happy to pay less for it. But really at that price you can have a Good Smith fix any problems for less then MSRP and chances are you wont find any. Good Luck

44 magnums are the only used ones that seem to be pricey as they are no longer made (or made in small batches). I suspect you can do better, then again in IL, that might be a great price.

Pretty high for a used Vaquero. Though if I were in the market for a .357, I would opt for the mid-frame New Vaquero over the large frame Vaquero. They can be had for not much more than $500 and the new all-blue finishes are lovely. Though some cleanup runs have been made (some currently in stock at Davidson's), the large frame Vaquero was discontinued in 2005 in favor of the .357, .45Colt and now .44Spl mid-frame New Vaquero.

Thanks for the info, guys. That store isn't known for having great deals on used stuff, but every once in a while I come across a real steal. Had to see if this was one, which it appears it's not.

I agree that's too high a price for a used Vaquero. The last .357 Magnum Vaquero I bought cost me only $350 and that's because it probably had only 1 box of ammo through it, it was that clean and new looking.
