I got an FAL. A real mutt build.

Seems FAL guys are in short supply here on THR.

July 18, 2010, 08:41 PM
Cool. I just bought me a century arms cetme last week. Gotta get the bugs worked out of it though.

July 18, 2010, 09:04 PM
yea how is that working out 15guns? I was thinking about getting an Imbel FAL from Any input of that cetme would help me out.

July 18, 2010, 09:57 PM
Got a franken FAL as well.

My favorite rifle.

What's everyones' opinion on the new Sig716 coming out? I do not own any Sigs but have heard decent things. The price is amazing considering the other piston .308s out there. And that heavy barrel 16" marksman model..... mmmm shinnney

July 18, 2010, 10:56 PM
What's everyones' opinion on the new Sig716 coming out?

An unfortunate route they took in my opinion, there are a bunch of AR style 7.62x51 rifles on the market already. Something along the lines Sig556 scaled up would be much more interesting and offer something really new.

July 18, 2010, 11:01 PM
I have lusted after an FAL since about 1982. I still don't have one. I would guess for every two FAL owners there are about 10 people that want, but could never afford one. Its a rifle that has more admirers than owners.

July 19, 2010, 12:57 AM
7.62mm.ak47 that century arms gun has been nothing but a nightmare since I got it last week. The magazines won't feed right, one doesn't fight right in the mag well and new my gun jammed after the first shoot today and I can't even get it unjammed. I gotta send it back to century arms. I would never buy another century arms gun. If I had more money to kick around I would of gotten a PTR-91. I heard those are a good quality rifle. They Are like 1200 bucks before taxes though.

July 19, 2010, 12:58 AM
CornCod try a DSA FAL or a Imbel FAL.

July 19, 2010, 01:02 AM
Only ones I haven't owned or shot are the HKG3 and PTR-91.

My preference is for the FAL and the Saiga, the only two types I currently own.

July 19, 2010, 02:17 AM
Yeah M1key if century arms don't fix my gun right then I'm gonna see if they will refund my money and I'll go buy saiga. I have owned a ak type weapon before but it was in 7.62x39mm. That was the only let down for me was the caliber. Perfect gun otherwise.

July 19, 2010, 04:21 AM
IMI Galil SAR compact, reliable, classic fun.

This thread needs pictures, lots and lots of pictures :D.

July 19, 2010, 04:24 AM
Zen.45 how much was that doggie in the window? I wonder if this is the gun I seen on the movie HEAT.

July 19, 2010, 07:05 AM
Just so you know, i am extremely jealous; that is my "holy grail gun".

I have an Imbel FAL, but would trade it in a heartbeat for a genuine IMI Galil chambered in 7.62!!!

July 19, 2010, 07:35 AM
The FAL is a pretty decent rifle for what it is. I prefer the G3 however for ease in optics mounting and just overall simplicity. First FAL I owned was a pre May G1, in excellent condition. The rifle was plenty accurate, just that it would get ungodly hot after a mag or two, so much so that it was hard to hold on to that stamped steel forend. I found it time consuming and frustrating to try to get it properly clean, especially the adjustable gas area around the front sight base.

July 19, 2010, 09:02 AM
I just called Century Arms today. They said they sell 100,000 guns a year and don't have the time to go through every gun perfectly to make sure they all work flawlessly. The lady said they will send me a brand new one and check out everything to make sure it works after I send mine in. She said that if I have any problems with the one they will send me to call her right away. See they are taking to make things right. She said they have been in business for like 50 years.

July 19, 2010, 09:06 AM
A guy I chatted with on a gun chat room that used to be in special forces air bourne in the army for 9 years said that he prefers the heckler and koch hk91 design. He owns a hk91 with a night vision scope and uses it for hunting. He said he doesn't like FALs.

July 19, 2010, 12:04 PM
I have owned the Saiga 308. Loved it, but it I longed for the M1a. Sold the Saiga and got the M1 and would never look back.
My M1a is my only long gun.

July 19, 2010, 12:29 PM
Recently finished my Saiga .308 conversion. Other than the ugly furniture, I'm very pleased for the money. I've heard the arguments back and forth about converting saigas or leaving them in factory configuration. I'll just say this, getting rid of that terrible factory fcg is well worth it. The trigger set up on the factory rifles is a real frankenstein job.
(It's the big one)

July 19, 2010, 12:32 PM
Own a Century CETME. Took it out and ran 300 rounds of ammo through it with no problems. Loves Magtech and Silver Bear stuff. Had issues with it recently but that was a fault on my part. Used to AR15's and running them wet. Not so much with a CETME or G3. They run dry. That and if one takes a 12 gauge brush to the chamber flutes to help remove any gunk. Sight adjustment takes a bit to get used to but is solid.

Hate the handguard that comes with them though. Heats up after a few mags. I installed a HK wide forearm, which was difficult with the triple frame. There is a small lug on the bottom of the triple frame that can be removed with a dremel tool. after that the handguard can be installed. The aluminum heat shield helps a lot when shooting a bunch of mags.

kmcintosh78 M1AS are great guns just to high for me. Opoche I like your black ak. Send it to me. Lol.

July 19, 2010, 09:05 PM
Nah, I don't have any of those...

July 19, 2010, 09:21 PM
Oh My God iamkris! Your my new best friend. : ) Ha Ha. I like that msar rifle. I holded a real steyr aug at a gun show once and holded one of those msars at a gun shop once. I like the balance of that gun. They are a great balance compared to m-4s. M-4s are barrel heavy.

Today was the first time with an FAL.

The buddy has the action from Argentina and trigger group from elsewhere (L1A1: British).
Have no exact idea where the bullets went in the target (had little time to linger, and don't care), but there was very little recoil with his gas setting.

Other than the very stiff, lousy trigger and being left-handed (kept bumping the safety), it is a wicked, lean battle rifle. The bolt handle is better than that on the G-3s.
'Only' about 70 countries used the FAL as their main battle rifle for many years?

"iamkris" has a nice harem of lusty babes. He taunts us weekly with visions of paradise, and enjoys each chance to tease and torment 'the rabble'.

July 20, 2010, 09:45 AM
I have a DSA FAL and a Armalite AR-10, I could easily sell every other long rifle I own except these two and be perfectly content.

July 20, 2010, 09:59 AM
I have a PTR91 and three M1A Spring Inc. rifles.
Recently sold my Saiga .308 because I shot up all my Chinese steel case ammo!

July 20, 2010, 10:15 AM
Let me be clear that I'm an M14 fan through and through.

I do enjoy my HK's and just like the M14 the longer I handle them, over 20 years now, the better they seem to handle.

July 20, 2010, 10:59 AM
"iamkris" has a nice harem of lusty babes. He taunts us weekly with visions of paradise, and enjoys each chance to tease and torment 'the rabble'.

I heartily disagree with this statement. MJ's babes are far more lusty and he is much more liberal with his taunting :)

July 20, 2010, 12:06 PM
Liberal with my taunting, how so?

Babes, me?

July 20, 2010, 09:48 PM
I can't see spending much over 500 bucks for a gun wiether I'm rich or I'm poor.

July 20, 2010, 10:02 PM
I can't see spending much over 500 bucks for a gun wiether I'm rich or I'm poor

Several decent guns under $500...but you will be missing out on dozens (hundreds?) of guns that will give years of joy.

Just think, a life without

Many of the better Mausers
M1 Carbines
and on and on

Hardly a life worth living ;)

But seriously, focusing on <$500 guns will give you many years of enjoyment.

July 21, 2010, 04:46 AM
Ha ha. I think the problem with my gun is either in the magazine, the spring for the bolt or something to do with the bolt. It's very very hard to get that bolt cocked back. I just had the gun apart today and yesturday. I got that jammed case out and cleaned the whole gun up. It ejected no problem when I moved the bolt by hand. Maybe the bolt spring is just way to stiff in it. Maybe that's why the bolt is so hard to move. I don't know. That's my best guess tough. I plan on trying to shoot 1 round out of the magazine. Just load 1 in and see what it does. If that bolt spring is the problem then that gun isn't going to eject the spent case. We shall see.

Several FALs, 1 Century and the rest built by me. Also a 7.62 Galil, one of the last ones off the boat before the ban. Ditch Tiger, it's OK, I prefer the FAL actually.

I've got me an AR-10 that takes G-3 mags.

Gotta put it together, though.

July 21, 2010, 07:03 AM
Just tested my gun. I shot 1 round from the magazine. All I had was 1 round in the mag. The gun fired but still would not eject the case. I think the slide is not moving on it after I pulled the trigger and it fires. This time I could manually get the slide to move back and get the case out. Last time I had to feild strip it to get the spent case out. I gotta send it back to the factory for sure now. I cleaned it all up and it still wouldn't move the slide to eject the spent case. :banghead:

July 21, 2010, 07:20 AM
Opoche I like your black ak. Send it to me. Lol.

Old Ban era Arsenal SLR-105
Definitely not a 7.62, but that was the only pic I had on my pc with the Saiga in it.
Plan on getting similar furniture for the Saiga (if for no other reason than to get a NATO length stock), but money is tight and I had an old Bulgy set laying around.

It started as this;

And I turned it into this;

How do you like the KVAR furniture PAPACHUCK?
I desperately need to replace mine.

July 21, 2010, 07:15 PM
What size barrel is on it Chuck?

July 21, 2010, 07:17 PM
A stock ak saiga in 308 with a 22 inch barrel is like a mega cheap m1a.

July 23, 2010, 05:42 AM
I was digging around online and seen on one forum that a guy bought a cetme like I did and had the same problem as me and he sent it back to century. Every new gun they sent him did not eject. On the third gun they sent him he kept it and took it to a gun smith. After seeing that post I do not trust Century one bit. I doubt if I will ever send my gun back. I just can't trust century after what I've been through and what I've heard about them. I can't believe people still buy their guns and they are still in business.

July 23, 2010, 12:56 PM
I ended up calling the gun shop today that sold me that rifle. The salesman said to bring it in and the gunsmith will look at it. So I dropped it off today. 2 different salesmen there couldn't believe what that gun did to my ammo cases. One of them thought something is to tight on that gun. I was told the gun smith will look at it next week.

15guns, if you have not already, go to - they will help you out with your cetme, very good forum for cetme/g3 related stuff.

July 24, 2010, 02:14 AM
The guns I have are Century builds. I have a G3 and a L1A1. I've been lucky with all my Century guns. These two have been great guns. I have had no issues with them. Of course I also have a Springfield M1A.

At some point I want a 308 AR like a DPMS or Armalite

July 24, 2010, 08:32 PM

There so many dozens (or hundreds) of serious complaints on six websites about Century CETMEs, and maybe some of their FALS (?), that I decided to instead buy a CMP Garand (my first) from a friend.

This might help explain-in addition to western "Battle Rifle" ammo costs-why so many CETMEs are available, not just at "GB" and other auctions, but at gun stores, pawn shops, and last week's Memphis gun show. It looks as if Century was probably run by bean-counters who believed in quantity over quality? I will never buy one of their products, even at a 50-80% discount.

The other factor is that reloading 30-06 (non-corr.) Greek M2 ammo should be easier than .308.

July 25, 2010, 12:06 AM
Ignition the sales lady claimed that they sell like 100,000 guns a year and don't have time to check them all out right. Yeah quanity instead of quality is their standards which is total crap to me. I bet if they went for quality instead of quanity their prices would be as a high as PTRS' is for the PTR-91. I wish someone that believes in qaulity over qaunity like me would take over century arms.

July 25, 2010, 01:40 AM
Looks like most prefer a FAL over a HK91 type gun. Why do you people prefer the FAL design over the HK91 type design?

July 25, 2010, 01:48 AM
"...for ease in optics mounting..." Battle rifles don't need optics.

July 25, 2010, 03:28 AM
15guns, the last two pictures are the same H&K91, just different furniture. That's one big plus for the G3 based rifles.

July 25, 2010, 03:46 AM
"...It looks as if Century was probably run by bean-counters who believed in quantity over quality?..." No QC. When they were still in Canada, they assembled thousands of Lee-Enfields out of parts bins. No checking the headspace to ensure the rifles were safe to shoot. Ditto for the assorted FAL's they built with a mixture of inch and metric parts. How they've survived without being sued is beyond me.
They imported all the Cetmes.
Wouldn't touch any rifle Century had anything to do with myself.

July 25, 2010, 04:14 AM
Salvo why the change? You got bored with it? Lol.

July 25, 2010, 04:15 AM
Yeah Sunray I would never buy a century made or built gun ever. If the gun shop can't get my gun fixed right then I'm going to return it and get a saiga. I really haven't heard anything bad about those yet.

July 28, 2010, 07:02 PM
Hello FAL Lovers. I just got my cetme back today. One of the owners of the gun shop I got it from believes my gun should work right now. He said the gun smith was hammering away on it and he test fired it. We shall see. I gotta buy me a new front handgaurd pin and then a g3 mag for it. I gotta buy 20 more rounds of ammo then I'll go and see if it works right or not. Cross your fingers. Century Arms told me today that a warranty on a new gun is good for 1 year.

July 28, 2010, 08:07 PM
i have been shooting a hesse h91 and russian vepr in 308 and they both run fine. eastbank.

July 29, 2010, 12:59 AM
Hesse? I never heard of that one. I'll google it when I have time. I might try putting a picture of mine up sometime.

July 29, 2010, 02:23 AM
Springfield Armory NM M1A
M1 Garand (hey, it's .30 cal)

I love that M1A to death, it was my first rifle, and it might very well still be my favorite. Since then though, I've been buying rifles in calibers I can actually afford to shoot, i.e. 22LR, 5.56, 5.45. Hope to add a 7.62x54R soon.

Speaking of semi-auto 7.62 NATOs, is the FN 17S out on the market yet? Everyone seems to like the FN Mk17.

July 29, 2010, 03:21 AM
I test fired my gun again today. It jammed after the first round again. I knew that gun smith at my local gun dealer was no good. I hope I can get a exchange on it. I want to exchange it for a new saiga ak 308 win 16inch. That gun smith won't be able to get my gun right, I'm not sending my gun back to century for a new one because every new one they send me will probably be crap and I don't want to pay big money to have a good gun smith fix it right. I might was well see if I can exchange it for a saiga ak in 308.

July 29, 2010, 07:25 AM
looks like most prefer a FAL over a HK91 type gun. Why do you people prefer the FAL design over the HK91 type design?

reliable design
full power cartridge
extremely good ergonomics
cheap mags
extraordinarily easy to break down, field strip, clean
adjustable gas system

sights are adequate but better A2 style sights exist
triggers not known to be great but they can be improved

reliable design
full power cartridge
cheap mags
somewhat easy to break down, field strip, clean
sights are adequate

no bolt hold open
abysmal ergonomics - safety selector is near impossible to reach, cocking handle is in terrible place, mag release is hard to reach
Triggers are absolutely horrible but they can be improved

15guns -- also, early in this thread, you said you can't see why anyone would spend more than $500 for a gun. I hope this little adventure with the Century CETME shows why spending a bit more for quality might be worth it. You could have spent $900 for a good PTR91 and the quality would have been on par with the original HKs. My PTR is flawless.

July 29, 2010, 12:04 PM
Umm safety lever is hard to reach? I just started using my left hand. Because with my right finger it was kind of hard to reach when my right hand was on the pistol grip. No problem with reaching it with my left hand.

July 29, 2010, 12:06 PM
The gun shop salesman told me to bring in my gun today and talk with the gun smith myself about my gun. I really doubt he can fix it. I talked with another gun smith on the phone today. He said I need to send my gun to a specialist gun smith that knows how to work on those hk 91 type guns real good.

July 29, 2010, 04:25 PM
I took my gun in after 1 p.m. today. I was standing around waiting on the gun smith to get my gun fixed. I heard a air tool once and then he fired it 3 different times while I was there. I couldn't stick around to see if he could get it fixed so I'll have to call the gun shop tomorrow and see what happened to it. FALS are good guns but I just don't like the looks of them. That's why I would never buy one. I had a ton of fun using a semi auto FAL on call of duty modern warfare 2 online on free for all matches. I only used it for one map though because most maps need a full auto gun. I used to have a xbox 360 and played that game for like 3 and a half months online until I got bored with the maps. They did come out with new maps but I knew I was gonna get bored with them again in time so I just decided not to play it anymore. I sold my stuff and decided to get another real gun. Something like the FAL I was shooting with in that game. I actually wanted a FAL at first until I seen how they looked and they are higher priced than cetmes. Anyone played Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Online? Karachi is the map I used that FAL on and I used a TAR-21 that was full auto on the skidrow map. Those and the quarry were my favorite maps. I had the first Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 but it was for the pc and I couldn't play it online because my pc wasn't good enough and I only had dail up. I did rent that game once and played it online when I had my xbox 360. The graphics and maps weren't as good as the second modern warfare 2 but the guns firepower was more realistic than the second game. I've had many shooter games. Those are my favorite then racing games. I don't play any games right now. I did try playing combat arms online for a bit but you have to pay to get better weapons and gear. Plus you can't go prone and you can't look down the guns sights. If you have a optic or a scope you can look down that though. You can go crouch on that game to.

July 29, 2010, 06:20 PM
The FAL and the Apple... sound familiar to me.

"Occident' Kalash", a real "battle rifle"...

July 29, 2010, 09:15 PM
Umm safety lever is hard to reach? I just started using my left hand.

Yes, it is hard to reach. The point is that you shouldn't have to use your left hand. A battle rifle that requires you to move your support hand to move the selector is not designed with sound ergonomic principles in mind.

Run your gun through a tactical course and you'll see what I mean.

July 29, 2010, 09:18 PM
This thread makes me sad that I don't have a FAL or M1A =(

I knew I should of bought that M1A Scout instead of the XCR haha.

July 29, 2010, 10:49 PM
Yes iamkris it would be worth paying the extra money for a ptr-91 rather than paying over 500 for a gun that never works right. Now I see clearly. I have seen the light. I have been saved. Praise the Lord! Ha,Ha. :banghead: :fire: :barf: :scrutiny: :cuss: :(

July 29, 2010, 10:51 PM
Batteran lets see you shoot that apple with your FAL at 25 yards. Ha ,Ha. Tape it and put it on youtube. Lol j/k.

July 30, 2010, 10:25 AM
I called up my local gun dealer today. The salesman said the gun smith wasn't able to get my gun to cycle right. They are going to send the gun back to Century Arms. He said that Century will fix it or send a new one. I asked him if the gun smith can check it when it comes in to make sure it works right and he said yes. I told him I don't trust Centurys work after this. I'll keep you FAL guys posted on my Century Arms Nightmares. Have a Nice Day. : )

July 30, 2010, 04:06 PM
Darn it you guys, I just finished my AR15 and told myself a CMP Garand would be my next buy, but now you've got me thinking about a FAL. I really like the looks of the DSA's but I could buy 3 M1's for that price. I love Ifit's with the wood furniture.

A question for the HK91 owners - I've heard they really beat up brass due to the fluted chamber. Is that true? The price of the PTR's is a lot cheaper than a good FAL, but since I reload I'd rather not have something that eats brass after one or two uses.

July 30, 2010, 04:48 PM
Yeap the hk91 type guns puts nasty lines in brass. Soft brass that is. It's not reloadable. You can get Military Surplus ammo that has hard brass and it won't be tore up as bad but I doubt you can reload them. FALS have adjustable gas pressure so they can be reloadable. I don't know I think I'd rather have a armalite ar 10 carbine than a FAL. Right now a FN SCAR H in 308 is the best semi auto assualt rifle out there. Then I would say a ar10 carbine. The a FAL probably would be next. Last on my list would be the hk91 type guns. M1as are great but don't have the assualt rifle look to them and seem harder to feild strip than some others.

July 30, 2010, 11:07 PM
I had a aussy kit on an imbel reciever by CAI but had to sell when I blew my savage up. It was a day of two funerals:barf:

July 31, 2010, 12:00 AM
I'm a firm believer in the HK91. Mine has been a flawless companion for quite a few years now. While I tend to use my ARs, or VZ58 more frequently that has more to do with the cost of ammo than the performance of the rifles. Nothing says you're serious quite like a .308.

July 31, 2010, 12:04 AM
You can reload H&K 91 Brass, been doing it for years!
My H&K 91 does not chew up the brass like others that I have seen and the flute marks do not affect the brass other than looks!
These shoot right at MOA!

July 31, 2010, 12:34 AM
My lines of beauty were deeper than those. Same looking lines but deeper. And here I tossed out 3 super x cases thinking they can't be reloaded. :(

July 31, 2010, 12:35 AM
What would you people want more a ar 10 carbine or a FAL?

August 6, 2010, 02:38 PM
Hey Kids I just called my local gun shop today. The salesman said that Century Arms got my rifle in and they are suppoused to inspect it today. The salesman also said he won't be hearing back from them until like monday or tuesday. I hope they can fix my gun right instead of sending me a new one.

August 7, 2010, 02:35 AM

Have you tried the FAL forum at "Gunandgame" etc?

August 7, 2010, 05:14 AM
I prefer a FAL
Of all the others I have shot it seemed to fit me the best.
I built mine a few years with a bi-pod cut Imbel kit and Imbel GL receiver.

I find it reasonably accurate for what it is.
I use the irons and can get consistent hits on an 8x13" target up 300 or so yards, after that I can't see it anymore and am just guessing where it is.
I did install a DSA scope mount which is rock solid but I haven't tried anything but a cheap red dot from wally world on it.
The reason I got it is that it is also a para cover as well.
Using it you do not have to get the receiver cut for a top cover and it works with a standard and para FAL.
It gives me the option of mounting an optic later on as well.

Just a mock up of the SA para lower.
At the moment the lower is completely stripped.
It is in the process of getting refinished.

Powermad what pistol is that? Looks like a M&P by Smith and Wesson. I could be wrong though.

I seen a deal on cheaperthandirts magazine. 200 rounds of nato 7.62 ammo for just over 85 bucks before shipping. I think it was bulgarian kind but in a sealed like water proof pack it looked like. It was military surplus ammo from what I could tell.

Have you tried the FAL forum at "Gunandgame" etc?

Can't say I have. Am I missing a good time?

I just called century today. They said it's a 2 to 3 week turn around there. They couldn't give me any info on my gun but that they got it last wednesday. They said they get returns in all the time. I wish I could of thought of a smart butt remark to say like "Yeah I'll Believe That" but oh well. They said to call in the middle to the end of next week to see if they have any new info about it.

My gun came back from the factory last monday but it still don't work right so the gun shop sent it back again for the second time. I decided to get a full refund.

Sorry to hear that.

Seems like every FAL receiver copy out there needs the feed plate polished or trimmed up a bit to feed right. Century and Entreprise are known for past cave man creations and even DSA has produced some duds since the gun rush.

Maybe hold on to you cash for a good deal on a working rifle. I'm sure someone at FAL files would be more than happy to help you locate a good deal.

I've shot them all except the SAIGA, and hands down, the M1A is by far my favorite.

Don't know about the FAL section. At "Gunandgame", I only read the Enfield and Garand forums, but those guys are adults, with a sense of humour. Yes, adults.

To be quite frank, they never make personal attacks on each other when they disagree with others' viewpoints, or become overly defensive about their choice of AR vs. AK etc battle rifle etc, as happens on several other websites.

That's why it's by far my favorite gun site, along with "Milsurps/com", "Surplusrifle", "Gunboards" etc.

Here's a cell-phone taken 'beauty shot' of my PTR-91, with all the bells and whistles attached. Taken just moments before I took the pistol grip assembly off to send out for a trigger job.

All semi-auto .308 battle rifles make up a group large enough to perhaps warrant their own forum, not just a "club" thread (of which, we don't need anymore, anyway).

A better use of the thread would be a discussion of why one rifle is preferred to others. I personally am a fan of the FAL family for its ergonomics and balance. I dislike the HK91 for not having these things. I like the M1A for its beauty, and for being the last US "old school" rifle, even if made 20 years or more after its time. I like the AR-10 for its ease of accessorizing, its ergonomics, and for not being an HK91.

Since it obviously bears stating again, gratuitous pictures of women are not only not wanted here, but will incur infractions to the poster.

LOL. I think in order to contribute to this thread we need to sell those little Calvin stickers which I see in the rear windows of pickup trucks around here, peeing on some FAL or HK or Springfield Armory, etc. trademark!

People sure do get wrapped in this sort of discussion.

What I find most amusing is the erroneous info passed about about the HK and similar clones. Can't reload the brass? I've never had that problem. Ergonomics? I've installed ambi safety/selector and a paddle magazine release. Seems to work well for me. I love the claw mount Hensholdt scope, it fits on and returns to zero readily.

I don't know. These rifle sure are fun tho.

I have been looking for a good MBR and decided on .308 (plenty powerful enough down range and bearable to shoot). It seems to me after alot of searching (I didn't know, so I came to the guys that do), that the basic choices are HK91, M1A, FAL, and AR10. After looking at prices (ouch, wrong time to buy guns if you're broke, but the right time to buy if you want to beat another AWB), I decided on the CETME. But after researching those, and reading here, I figure my luck isn't that good and I should stay away from century (thumb-fingered monkeys I think was the term). So, after that what's the next 308 for the budget -minded? I still like the HK91 (.97 mags are a big plus), but the sticker shock on a PTR is a bit painful. Any thing out there for us poor folk in 308, or do I take my chances on a CETME or save my pennies for something else?

September 13, 2010, 07:05 PM
Saiga is a good option out there that can be had at a pretty decent price, DPMS has an AR-10 sportical model available at under a grand.. I opted for the PTR. Look for a good deal on a gun that you want.. Dont go cheap or you will be disappointed in the end without a doubt. "sticker shock" goes away the moment you pull the trigger on what you really wanted to begin with.

All that said, what you can afford does make a difference. IMO, it is better to hold off and save those pennies to afford what you want.

In order of preference for me.

I would be more than happy and confident with any EXCEPT the CETME.

Thanks for the advice pt1911. Impatience is my enemy :)

Speaking of the CETME, What's up with the upside down safety ? How did they mess that up? Do you have to replace the entire lower to correct that( $250+)?
