So my GF made a big mistake the other night, say that I cna get whatever I'd like fo rmy birthday this year since I did it up for hers. Well I want to get a can. I've read really great things about the Silencerco sparrow since I want to get it in a .22.

What I wanted to ask is what pistols and rifles are you all running a can on in .22lr? I've been thinking about a Ruger MkII and a 10/22. Who makes good threaded barrels? Can I cut threads on a bull barrel? lol I've got a few questions but I will ask them as we go as to not over whelm everyone in my first post.

Sorry for the wall of text, and thanks in advance.

I have a Ruger mk 3 barrel I threaded the hard part is moving and remounting the front sight. I bought one of the little Walter 22's just because they are already threaded, just need an adapter. A bolt action rifle is nice also as you get the most out of your can with out action noise.

Check with your state laws.
Certain states allow suppressors while there are some which completely disallow them (IOW -- ILLEGAL)!

Also, make sure you have the necessary ATF paperwork, forms, etc completed along with any fees required before starting on this venture. :scrutiny:

Once you are all legal, have fun, good luck and ENJOY! :)

I know I'm legal since because of my job :) and I live in VA so I know they are legal here as well. I've already looked at the paperwork and all that and I have a friend that has already been through the process for his can that is helping me out.

I've looked and I've read and it boiled down to the Sparrow. Unless I missed a write up or two on other ones that seems to be the cream of the crop for .22's.

How about Ruger MkII's? I've seem threaded barrels from Pac-Lite

Can anyone tell me more about them or should I ask this in the handgun section of the forum? I'm just trying to keep all this info in one spot for later reference.

The same goes for a rifle. I'm looking at getting a 10/22 and upgrading a bunch of parts. Can I have a bull barrel threaded or will cutting it effect the harmonics of it?

What about a Gemtech Oasis supressed uppper for the MkII/III or the 10/22?

^^

Can I take them apart like the Sparrow and clean them myself? That was a huge selling point, how simple the Sparrow was to break down for cleaning by the owner.

My favorite non F1 .22 can is the Checkmate. The QD tri-lug adapters are night and day to thread on cans. From gun to gun in seconds.

I have my first can waiting on my stamp now (AAC Prodigy) - I'm planning on using a buckmark for the host. Will get a threaded barrel from tactical solutions. On the Ruger the barrel is the registered part - on the buckmark it's the frame so a barrel can be sent directly to the purchaser - not through an FFL. Have fun.

@OP: I'm not sure. Give me some time to get back to you & I'll contact Gemtech & find out for you and I; seeing as i want one too.

LHR - While those are prety damn cool, I think I want to go with a screw on can. I'd like to be able to buy one can that I can switch between firearms.

JMorris - That is a damn cool one! That's one that I haven't seen before either, though I have just started looking int he last few days/weeks. How would it compare to a Sparrow?
