The S&W website is nearly worthless. I know someone here will know this off the top of their head.
1) What's the difference in the Pro model?
2) What is the model number of the 4" model with no mag disconnect?

The M&P9 is a 4.25" barrel model that has the factory trigger and sear. The Pro model comes in a 4.75" and the newest 5" barrel. It also has an upgraded apex sear and trigger job that is a good improvement over the factory.

The 9 Pro Series comes from the S&W Performance Center with a 5" barrel and different sights; blacked out rear and FO front. Trigger weight is closer to 4#s. The 9L is pretty similar and I would recommend it IF you are just going to send it to Burwell for trigger work right off the bat.

209301 - no safety That model comes with 10 round mags. Obviously not an insurmountable obstacle, but I'd prefer to just purchase the correct one to begin with.

I have a M&P9 manufactured in 2008 that came with 2 17 rd mags, no thumb safety or mag disconnect - model #209301. It's right on the box.
Maybe S&W has an error on their website or stopped selling that model with 17rd mags?

No, you are absolutely correct! My mistake! I was looking at the 109301, which seems to be the same pistol with castrated mags.

The pro model does not have apex parts in it, it has a s&w performance center sear, 5 inch barrel, and fiber optic sights.

I have better luck downloading the S&W catalog. There will be a single page that lays out all the models and feature on a matrix. It's superior to the web site for a fast reference.

The M&P's first trip to the Performance Center resulted in what is labeled the "M&P 9Pro Series" with the standard 4 1/4" (full size) barrel. Later, a second model, the "M&P 9Pro" with 5" barrel became available as did the 9L (5" barrel).
9Pro Series with 17 round mag: 178035
9Pro with 17 round mag: 178010
9L with 17 round mag: 205301
There is also a Champion Series but unless you want a ribbon engraved on the slide and pink grips I'd pass on it.
After Apex parts and a new sight the 9L can run more than the Pro but it gives you flexibility in choosing what to change.
