1911 that holds 50 rounds - I want it.

So I'm laid off and almost nothing on TV so I turn on a B movie called Comodo VS Cobra. It has that guy in it that was popular in the early 80's. (Streets of fire)
Anyway big cobra (100 feet long) attacks a guy and this dude unleashes his Govt Model 1911 in rapid fire, no reloads or pauses, and I counted 50 rounds. Later he did the same thing with the giant comodo, but I think it was only 45 rounds.
That's the gun I want. Anyone know where I can get one?

questions
How often do the prop guns that use butane or propane shoot before a refill?
Wasn't it "Way of the Gun" that had guys reloading their 1911s after only seven rounds?
The real problem is the film editors who cut out all the magazine changes in the gun fight scenes. Yeah, that's the problem. The screen writers, directors, prop guys and actors know better, right?

www.sportsmansguide.com I'm not sure if they have them currently in stock, but they used to have the 50rd drums for the 1911, I want to get one soon, not that ill use it much or anything, that'd get expensive, just to have, that's all.

In Hollywood, the magazine reload is actually for "a witty quip about the firefight," and usually involves an overturned table or shot up car.
Doncha know? Heroes summon projectiles from their sheer WILL TO WIN.

Thats right, because most film makers are anti gun they have no clue how many rounds shoots out of each gun. Thus they will say oh this colt shoots 50 rounds! now its a assault pistol and the anti gun grabbers are after something that will really only hold 7 rounds +1. No wonder we have so many assault type weapons!!:banghead:
:D
P.S I was amazed at one movie, this double barrel shotgun really shot two rounds! I guess they could count. But no one can count the magazine on the DE, it shot like 15 rounds without a reload. They think bullets are little small demon killers that are very small and can hold 50000 in a clip... Oh and thats a MAGAZINE not a clip

... even more amazing i found "Last of the mohicans"
Those selfloading .45 Kentucky and Pennsylvania Muzzleloaders were amazing.
If those were were available the Garand would have been never invented :-)

I seen Predators, recently, and while I'm not a fan, there is one scene after a lot of gunplay where the main character rallies everyone to reload during a lull in the action (he has an AA-12 with one drum, which you see im remove and open to refill). In some ways Hollywood is getting better with the whole reload thing.

This comes close to 50. Drum for the 1911 that I believe holds 43 rounds when fully loaded.

It is ridiculous. Those pistols don't even recoil. I like how he's able to look away, while shooting, to instruct the girls on where to go.

I seem to recall a photo that I saw many years ago, that showed a 1911 with a snail-drum magazine and a wire cage mounted over where the hot brass would eject.
The idea was that a pilot in one of our fighters would have something to shoot at the enemy with if his machine guns ran out of ammo or jammed. The cage was to keep him from getting the hot brass in his face, etc.

You should really watch the whole clip. Gary gets eaten by the cobra and the hottie tries to cry about it, but she lacks the acting skills to pull it off.

Somebody was making a new snail drum magazine for the M1911 in the '70s or '80s. They were also selling a holster(?) stock and matching mainspring housing to make an SBR. I used to see them in SGN, as I recall.

I bet he felt like an idiot during filming, running out into the field and constantly clicking the guns that many times without being aimed at anything.

Aside: The WWI 1911 with a wire cage mounted over the ejection port; WHB Smith Small Arms of the World in the history section carried a photo of one. Those early WWI biplanes had fragile cloth skins and control of ejected brass was important.
On OP: Some people who read spex on guns (Thomspon SMG can fire 900 rounds per minute) actually believe you can fire 900 rounds in one minute without reloading. RPM is a cyclic rate, not a magazine capacity. It means a 20 shot Type XX stick lasts less than 2 seconds, and a 50 shot Tyle L drum lasts less than four seconds. Magazine fed guns ought to have cyclic rate listed as rounds per second (900 rpm = 15 rps).
The typical participant in a typical Hollywood full-auto firefight fires his body weight or more in ammunition. The uninformed public and agitators who actually know better then pressure Washington to push regulations on semi-auto rifles fears raised by Hollywood fantasies.

Mr and Mrs Smith was on cable the other day and I was actually impressed that the director seemed to try to get it close to right. There were plenty of mag changes with the AR and the 1911, it only seemed like the pump shotgun lasted forever without reloading.

The thing that really makes me want to gouge my eyeballs out: Everytime anyone in a movie draws, or points a weapon, they cock it.
Worse case of it that I have seen was the killers. Everytime Ashton Kutcher drew his glock, it made the sound of a hammer being cocked back....
I also like the way people can CC ANYTHING in movies. I cant count how many full size Desert Eagles I have seen CC'd in movies.

I remember watching Wanted and the kid pointed his 92FS at the guy then you saw him cock the hammer back, then he pulls the DA trigger and you watch the hammer swing back as he pulls the trigger tighter n tighter. It was a very ~facepalm~ moment. Yes I know that movie was a load of crap but at least when the kid ran out of ammo he discarded his primary weapon and picked up someone elses relatively loaded gun.

Yup. I saw some nice (realistic) one-handed reloads too. Director obviously cared about realism. I like how when they were picking up the hostages, they hid their entire bodies, heads and all behind the hostage. Normally they just stand kinda beside them and hold a gun to their heads, like you couldn't just shoot the hostage-taker in the head from 5ft.

In a rare fit of compassion, I let this thread live for 24hours longer than I really wanted. Movie threads make my eyeballs bleed.
Movies are not real. They're staged and fake and bad. Movie makers will always make mistakes about guns, just like they make mistakes about everything else.
It's FAKE. It's pretend. It's about entertainment - not about being correct. Folk that wanna debate movie bloopers need to do it on a movie forum. THR is a gun-and-RKBA forum, and we talk about real life here.
