I have an early S&W model 27 with a 4" barrl. I am curious about the old 38/44 loads and how much power you can get from one. I any event I would like to play around with some of these loads using 38 special cases if possible. Any ideas where to start?

The famous Keith load was 13.5 gr of 2400 with a 158 LSWC. 2400 is supposedly faster burning now than it was in the 30's when he developed that one, and it's suggested that 12.0 grains is today's maximum charge.
I've read various velocity figures for that one from 1150-1350 fps.
