30-06 vs 270

Greetings,
I just ran a 270 case by mistake into my 30-06 batch. The dimensions are so close that it skipped my triage.
Odd question of the day: Can you run the 270 into 30-06 dies and shoot them as 30-06 safely? :what:
Thank you

I will use a reloading manual to answer your question.
A 30-06 case is 2.494" long.
A 270 case is 2.540" long.
When you expand it to .308", it will get shorter, but will still need trimming to 30-06 trim-too length of 2.484".

Greetings,
I noticed it was too long. I trim all my cases all the time anyway, I am anal and like my cases all the same and shinny...:)
Question of pure rhetoric: So, is it safe once trimmed to shoot those as 30-06 ammo?
Thank you

Yes, it is safe as far as it goes.
The real danger would be if someone manages to shoot the 30-06 load in a 270 marked case in a .270.

Could it even be chambered in a .270?

Not easily, but someone determined & stupid enough could drive the bullet back in the case and get the bolt shut I betcha.
Distance to the shoulder and shoulder angle are virtually the same.

Good point RC. Never underestimate the power of stupidity. If it is possible to screw up, someone will do it.

I picked some 270 cases up at a gunshow it was mixed in with 30/06 cases. I sized one and accidently didnt trim the case, sucks when your in the field. You try to shut the bolt but obviously it isnt going to shut. I pulled the cartridge out realized it was marked 270 headstamp. Its safe to use 270 if you trim the brass ;) I know people who use 270 and 30/06 for all sorts of cartridges, 25/06 6mm/06 338/06 and i think the 35 whelen is a 30/06 necked up to 35 cal

I have never done that, but I have sized 30-06 cases in 270 dies, and loaded them for 270.
Your question was, "Is it safe?" I think so, as long as the length is checked.
