Hi there all, I recently purchased a Remington XCR Compact Tactical. I love my new gun but I'm having a little trouble deciding on what kind of sling to get for it. Many people have suggested a well made "3 point sling". What exactly is a 3 point sling and where would I find one?

Are Materials important? Can it be leather or should it be Ballistic Nylon?

would a two point sling be better?

This rifle will be used for zombies.

Thank you.:neener:

For compact AR-type designs it's a no-brainer 1st choice.
The Rem XCR's traditional design/weight (may?) not make it as practical a choice there.

Others weigh in here.

I don't think you should try a 3 pt sling on this gun. Or any gun for that matter...they aren't very useful, IMHO. But primarily I don't think you should use a three point sling on one of these guns because the roles of the sling and rifle don't match.

Two point quick adjust slings or single point slings are where it's at for AR/AK type rifles. I don't think a conventionally stocked precision rifle would benefit much for that type of sling, though. You have to consider that the uses of a sling for a fighting rifle such as an AR and the uses of a sling for a precision rifle are different in their fundamental purposes. Yes, both are to carry the rifle with. But the quick adjust type slings are made for weapons retention and being able to transition to your sidearm easily without loosing control of your primary longarm.

Precision rifles, on the other hand, are all about using the sling as a support. Hence, putting a "tactical"* type sling on a precision rifle probably wouldn't make much sense.

*I hate using that word. But I want to make you realize that I'm talking about one point, two point quick adjust, and three point slings and not precision shooting slings.
