Aimpoint Sight Questions

August 6, 2010, 11:48 AM
Aimpoint has a number of various models. I am looking for a red dot sight. However, I am confused as to what the differences are between Aimpoint's models? For instance, what is the difference between the Comp M3 and ML3 and the Comp M4? What is the difference between the other models. Which one is recommended for general shooting, competition shooting, and military/police work? Also, I am looking at the options listed on SWFA. The sight will be on an AR15. Thanks.

Aimpoint's website should answer most of your questions on the various models.

So I guess my question is what makes the M4 and ML4 sights more expensive than the M3 and ML3 sights? Is the 4 series of sights worth $150-200 more than the 3 series? Thanks.

Many people become confused as to the features of the various Aimpoint models and how they compare to one another. I simply used the information available on the Aimpoint website to compile it all into one location to be able to compare them all at a glance.

My quick and dirty, simple and to the point, take on the various models is below. This is based on personal use of the models listed, the specifications from the chart above, as well as input from Aimpoint staff.

No need for deep diving or NV, and on a budget?
Aimpoint C3

Need a deeper waterproof rating?
Aimpoint ML3

Need the deeper rating and NV?
Aimpoint M3

Need the most robust and bomb-proof sight Aimpont has ever made?
Aimpoint M4 or M4s

Need a compact and/or lightweight solution without the need to dive or NV?
Aimpoint H-1

Need a compact and/or lightweight solution and you dive with it or need NV?
Aimpoint T-1

I just found one of the differences......
I just bought a new Aimpoint M4 and mounted it. Immediately I noticed the brightness adjusting knob seemed to have alot of slop in it. It will rotate a couple degrees either direction with no detent. I was not happy, figuring this scope already had to go back for warranty work! After some searching on the net, I found that the adjusting knob on the M3, M2, etc., was the weak point, and the M4's "slop" was actually an improvement engineered into the scope, to prevent shaft damage in the event of a fall, impact, etc. No need for the scope to go back.... Now I'm happy again!

I've used Aimpoint, trijicon, Eotech and to be quite honest, unless you are currently in combat or use your gun for a living then there is absolutely no need to spend all that extra money. You can get just as good of a sight with the Vortex Strikefire and for a fraction of the cost. If you are paying more than 125.00 bucks for a reflex dot sight, then you are just throwing away money.

I agree with you Muttt.
But I have this obsessive problem.......I always try to prepare for the worst! Lol I figure if I bought a run-of-the -mill sight, that would be the time I really needed a good one!
