I didn't want to hi-jack the other thread but, since I live
in a fairly humid place I was wondering how Hi Points
would hold out against rust?

The frame is polymer and the slide is zamak? How would
that be against rust? anyone?

I would think that it would take an awful lot of moisture to rust thru a 2 lb billet of steel. :rolleyes:

It will do it's job, you'll need to do yours. Same goes for any other gun I suppose. I haven't seen any bare/unfinished metal anywhere on my C9, other than the bore. If your humid climate is going to attack your Hi Point, I'd think you'll first notice it on the magazine.

The slide of a Hi-Point is made out of pretty much the same material.

Zamak is a casting alloy consisting of Zinc, Aluminum, Copper, and Magnesium.

All are non-ferrous metals, and none can possibly rust.

Only ferrous metals such as iron & steel can rust.
Rust is iron oxide / ferric oxide.

If you strapped the Hi-Point to the bumper of your car, wouldn't it act as a sacrificial anode?

You might get some rust on internals...but overall, no worse than any other mostly polymer pistol.

Only the barrel and some other small parts are steel. The slide is a form of Zinc, which doesnt rust. There is no 2lb billet of steel in a Hi-Point

Zamac 3, which is Hi-Points pot-metal of choice is 96% Zinc and 4% aluminum.

The polymer frame is obviously not going to rust. The steel barrel, magazine and action parts can, and while the zinc alloy slide will not rust, per se, it can still oxidize and corrode. But with any kind of decent ordinary care and storage conditions, this is a moot point.
