I've always had good luck with FedEx. They have a corporate location near me. And I've sent a number of guns off to gunsmiths over the last several years without any difficulties.

Those two and the Post Office are all equally convenient and for long guns there really isn't much to choose between them. None of them has insurance worth a tinkers dam, so pack accordingly.

I said UPS, just because I sent a handgun for warranty repair through them.

That does ABSOLUTELY NOT CONDONE the outrageous prices it costs to ship handguns. It was $92 in the end.

Here's the kicker. I had actually sold that handgun to a friend, and was returning it for repair because it broke on him.

I sold him the thing for $150. I had bought it for $299. :banghead:

I am a dealer and ship all of my sales via USPS Priority Mail. I am aware that non-ffl's can't use USPS for Handguns. If I were in that situation I would choose FEDEX. I have used it with success prior to getting my FFL. If you polled FFL's the majority would probably choose USPS

FexEx has always treated me with respect, and never got on a "holier-than-thou" attitude with me, unlike UPS. They were cheaper too ($17 for FedEx vs. $53 for UPS for a AR lower to Houston).

Anyway, they've both done alright for me, as has the USPS. I guess I've been lucky. Both also crush my packages about equally, but maybe the UPS adds a little more of their filthy black crud to the bottom of my boxes. :rolleyes:

Fedex. Especially when the counter guy at FEDEX/Kinkos looked at the handgun I was sending back for repairs and asked me ground or air! :)

I did not hesitate to answer ground! $20 and 3 days later my gun was at the manufacturer!

Never mind hand guns what about the bull Hazard fee Shp charges on primer's or powder when was the last time you heard of a UPS truck blowing up because of carring powder or primers ? $25.00 Hazard's fee YEA RIGHT ?

I'm an FFL. I receive shipments every day of the week from USPS/FedEx/UPS. As far as quality of service I would rate them as even.

When I ship handguns I use USPS exclusively.
When I ship long guns I use UPS exclusively.

If there is anything I hate most about UPS & FedEx, it has to be their automated phone system. I wind up screaming "please connect me to a live human!" at the phone half the time.

I use Fedex for long guns and USPS for handguns. I've never had a problem with outgoing shipping, but Fedex has been great about insurance claims on incoming guns that were broken.

My 3 local UPS shops ALL refuse to ship firearms. NOT AT ALL... even with a very civil conversation.

Fed-Ex on the other hand. I have never had them even flinch. Its never been a deal after probably 12-15 shipped firearms..

Although the price of shipping a sold HKP7 just cost me $64!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is outrageous and it actually makes my blood pressure rise whenever i get the total.

They've been posted a gazillion times on this forum alone.

Both require you to ship firearms ONLY from a Customer Service Center, and expressly prohibit shipping from a UPS Store, FedEx Kinkos or any third party retailer.
While that FedEx clerk may have been happy to take your shipment- he's not a FedEx employee and even if he says "guns is fine!" You'll be out of luck if you need to make a claim.

If it's a long gun I take it to USPS. If handgun, I take it to my FFL, who takes it to USPS.

You happen to be mistaken regarding FedEx/Kinkos. In fact FedEx/Kinkos has even dropped the Kinkos name altogether - they are now FedEx Office and are authorized to and do accept firearms shipments.

Licensed importers; licensed manufacturers; licensed dealers; licensed collectors; law enforcement agencies of the U.S. or any department or agency thereof; and law enforcement agencies of any state or any department, agency or political subdivisions thereof; or
Where not prohibited by local, state and federal law, from individuals to licensed importers, licensed manufacturers or licensed dealers (and return of same).
If your shipment contains firearms, select the Direct Signature Required or Adult Signature Required Delivery Signature Option, depending on the requirements of your shipment. See the Delivery Signature Options section for details. Firearms shipments are not eligible for signature release or indirect delivery.
Firearms must be shipped via FedEx Priority Overnight service. FedEx Express cannot ship or deliver firearms C.O.D. Firearms shipments cannot be placed in a FedEx Express Drop Box.
Upon presenting the package for shipment, the person tendering the shipment to FedEx Express is required to notify FedEx Express that the package contains a firearm. The outside of the package must not be marked, labeled or otherwise identify that the package contains a firearm.

When I lived in rural New Mexico UPS was way better. Now
that I have returned to Alaska it's FEDEX.
