Last night on Mythbusters I saw something hilarious. They were demonstrating how a sabot works (because they needed to launch a man out of a culvert) and showed the sabot/bullet combo exiting the barrel. They also showed the brass following the bullet out of the barrel!!!

Why is it so hard to get things right when demonstrating firearm function?

It is a special feature on some guns, so you do not have to pick up your brass!

You mean they showed the casing exiting the barrel with the bullet? Now THAT is a big goof to say the least! I expect better from the Discovery channel.

On a related note I heard that there is a manufacturer who makes saboted bullets for small arms.

The old Burnside carbine of Civil War fame used an odd reverse tapered case with the bullet heavily crimped into the case mouth.

It was very common, on firing, for a good chunk of the case to exit the barrel with the bullet.

I remember seeing one Quake II conversion (supposed to be US Navy Seals or something like that) where the M203's 40mm projectile flew sideways (modeler and programmer had their axis confused) AND had the case still attached. It was quite an odd sight to see flying right at my screen.
