Hey guys and gals. I'm putting a new scope on my muzzleloader for this season and was wondering if anyone had tried the T/C 3x9x40 scope and base package that WalMart sells for $44.99. I am of the opinion that you should buy the best scope you can afford, but unfortunately my funds are very low right now. I would like to put a Nikon Buckmasters on it, but I can't even spend that much right now. So who's tried out the T/C scopes? Are they any good? I know they won't compare to a high end scope, so you don't need to tell me that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

What's you max range? Provide it will hold up to the recoil, I suspect it will serve you well for deer hunting at ML ranges. Not like you're worried about parallax at 1K.

I seriously doubt I would take a shot at more than 150 yds with the ol smoke pole. It does say on the box that it's a muzzleloader scope. That's what makes me think it might be okay. I don't shoot magnum loads that often either. Normally it's just two 50 grain pellets behind a 240 grain XTP sabot. I never thought the extra pellet gave you that much of an advantage. I suppose maybe it would if you were hunting wide open spaces. Anyway, no brutal recoil to worry about.

I do not have any experience with the scope, but Wal Mart has a pretty generous return policy if it turns out to be junk.

I really like my Pentax Gameseeker 3-9x40 for an inexpensive scope. It's more than you need for a muzzleloader though.

AP - What is your price range?

Bushnell trophy, Silver 3x9x40 - 60$ (http://natchezss.com/product.cfm?contentID=productDetail&brand=BH&prodID=BH733940S&prodTitle=Bushnell%20Trophy%203-9X40%20Riflescope%20Wide%20Angle%20Multi-X%20Reticle%20Silver) You'll still need rings.

Same scope but matte - 70$ (http://natchezss.com/product.cfm?contentID=productDetail&brand=BH&prodID=BH733948B&prodTitle=Bushnell%20Trophy%203-9X40%20Riflescope%20DOA%20600%20Reticle%20Matte)

Same scope but a 1.75-4x32, free bushnell sportsman 4x32 scope - $65 (http://natchezss.com/brand.cfm?contentID=productDetail&brand=BH&prodID=BH731421C&prodTitle=Bushnell%20Trophy%201.75-4x32%20Black%20Powder%20Scope%20Matte%20w/Free%204x32%20Sportsman) - This is the scope on my muzzle loader right now. Very clear and bright for how inexpensive it is. The free sportsman scope is on the .308 barrel for the same gun and it's holding up fine.

For about 25, you can get a set of "universal" integral rings/mounts by durasight. They hold up just find on a muzzle loader, even if you are using 150gr charges.
