Police shoot, kill man in Wadena

WADENA, Minn. -- Police officers shot a man early Tuesday after they said he aimed a gun at them. He died a few hours later.

According to the Wadena County Sheriff's Department, police responded to a report of shots being fired just after midnight near a technical school and elementary school.

They returned to the same area again around 3 a.m., after fielding another report of a shot being fired, and met a 39-year-old man with a gun. His name was not released.

Officers ordered the man to drop the weapon, and when he pointed it at them, an officer shot him once, the sheriff's department said.

The man was taken to a hospital in Wadena and then to a hospital in Fargo, N.D. He died about 11:45 a.m. after undergoing surgery.

The shooting was under investigation by the Wadena County Sheriff's Office and the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Irony on

Maybe he was protesting the brainwashing of American children by the commie educational system. Some would then call him a hero...

There are schools scattered through every community. If you want to play the word association game then it's pretty easy to tie in "shooting" and "school". Now all you need to do is debate the meaning of the word "near"... or "is"...

WADENA, MINN. -- Authorities Wednesday identified a man shot and killed by Wadena police. Police said Kenneth Lloyd Lessley, 43, was shot early Tuesday morning after he pointed a gun them.

Lessley had been living in the Wadena area for six months but had no permanent address.

The shooting happened after police were called to an area of town around midnight after hearing a report that shots had been fired. They returned a few hours later after another report of a shot and confronted Lessley. According to the Wadena County Sheriff's Office, Lessley refused commands to put his gun down and then pointed it at the officers. An officer shot him once, and he died later at a hospital in Fargo, N.D. The officer who shot Lessley is on administrative leave while an investigation is completed. Wadena is about 150 miles northwest of the Twin Cities.
