GP100 barrel off center...normal?

I purchased a new GP100 a few months back and recently noticed that the fit between the barrel and the frame was a tad off center. If you look at the widest part of the barrel where it meets the frame you can see where more of the frame shows on the right side. I've tried to look at as many other GP100's as possible to see how common this is but only saw one other that seemed a bit off the center. Anyone have a GP that looks like mine regarding the barrel fit? It seems to shoot accurately so I'm not sure if this is even something I should be concerned with. Maybe it is within spec and I am being overly anal ...just curious what you guys think. Thanks for any info!!!!

I believe there is simply more frame material on one side than the other. I see this on a lot of revolvers. I would not worry about it. It is a purely cosmetic anomaly. As long as the bbl. bore lines up with the chambers there's no functional problem.

^^^ Exactly!
How does ot look on top? Is the barrel indexed plumb with the farme?

Yeah it looks pretty good when viewing it from the top strap down. Not quite perfect but not as off as it appears in the areas shown in the pics. When I look down the barrel and cylinder bore everything appears to be in alignment. I know the tolerances are a bit loose on GP's so as long as accuracy is good I guess I should ignore it. On a unrelated note, I have a Smith 686-5 coming to me next week and I can't wait to compare the GP to it. I think I will love them both ... but for different reasons.

It seems to shoot accurately
There's you answer. So long as it's timing properly, not spitting and shoots well, I'd put it to the back of my mind and enjoy it. After all, it is a $450 production DA Ruger, not a custom-fitted gun.

Symmetry is over-rated.

If it looks symetric from the top and shoots well I would not worry. It is not common but does happen. In fact had a 629 Mtn. Gun that was overclocked so it is not solely a Ruger problem.

The important thing is that the bore lines up with the chambers.
It is pretty common for guns not to be symmetrical. There used to be quite a business in dressing up a beloved gun, as a gift, by having them re-lined...it really changes the way they look

I just measured mine, it shows .117 on the right and .130 on the left, frame to barrel sight rib along the side of the top strap.

I just looked at my 3" and although you'd have to have too much time on your hands to notice it, there is a discernible difference on the two sides. Interesting observation. How's your navel? :D
