I'm planning on loading some 150gr cast lead bullets for 7.62x39. I'm using straight wheel weights for the lead alloy. Do I need gas checks? Should i lube the bullets? I was planning on using IMR 4198 because I have a full can of it sitting on the shelf. Any ideas on a good starting load?

Do your bullets have the base relief for gas checks?

I beleive they do have a relief, the mold i'm using is a lee 155 gr 2 cavity. While the mold is listed to drop 155 it seems to be dropping closer to 150.

You are using mold C312-155-2R.
The "C" prefix indicates the intended use with a gas check.

Thats the one, so I guess I need the gas checks. Okydoky, any ideas on a good lube? Or an idea on a starting load with IMR 4198?

Well, you could try them without but I never had much luck at that.
