What do you do when a fly lands on your target?

Of course you shoot it!!

My boy was practicing at 7 yards with the P22 when a fly landed on the target. I told him to shoot it. He did not see it so I drew my XD9 and fired a round.

7 yards, one shot.

I wonder if the extra diameter a 45 has would have made a difference in the time it took for it to be incapacitated?

Load was WCC 10 M882 ball.....

Fly swatting. I wonder if the Springfield Armory guys ever imagined this use...

That's a 1 in a million shot.

One shot, one fly.

I was at my brothers range the other day and came off the firing line when i was done shooting, out to the counter area and told him he needed more knats.

Puzzled, he asked me, "Whaaa?"

My deadpan response, "I shot them all."

lol....

A moment of silence for all the flies shot on targets ... NOT! Maybe it was "suicide by shooters"

Nice shooting ... good trigger control for such a small target.

At the outdoor range, if any cows/horses get injured, you lose your membership for life (coyotes, rabbits and squirrels OK).

A few of the guys I shoot with put spots of honey on there targets, wait for the flies to come in and take care of them with 10/22s.

The honey sounds like a good idea. I might have to try that one..

Nice shooting ... good trigger control for such a small target.

It all happened in one stroke. I told him to get it. He said he didn't see it. I skinned my smoke wagon and as soon as my arms got fully extended I fired. I didnt even use the sights.... Years of muscle memory and practice, and maybe alot of luck....

edit: oh and yes my boys eyes got big once he saw the splater around the hole after I shot.....

Can't say that I've ever shot a fly but I did manage to put a 9mm round inside a 1/2" circle at 7 yards while a bee was walking around on my off hand. :D

I've done this too, was just plinking, and the fly just landed on the target, begging to be shot. 7 yds, Browning Buckmark.

When I was a kid, back in the days before digital cameras or camcorders, my little brother shot a dragonfly out of the air with a 22rf. Seen it with my own eyes. The part that amazed me at a young age was my younger brother called his shot, then did it....

Been shooting flies for years with .22's at 100 yards.......sprinkle some soda pop on the target and let it dry, flies will be attracted to the dried sugar, then shoot!

My little brother is still full of trick shots. He still has the same 1022. A few years ago he setup a soda bottle at 200 yards. I lased it to confirm his claim. After he walked back from setting it up he turned, took aim, fired, and nailed it.

All kinds of rabbits, grouse, squirrels have ended up in our bellies and even more vermin eliminated with that gun.....

Get him to move out to about 250-260, and set up some of the old-style heavy glass Coke bottles. A standard-load .22 lr won't break one reliably unless you hit it just right, it's funny to hear crack! ........... plink! and watch it fall over almost in slow motion. The furthest range we had where I usually shot was about 260yds, and I used to shoot at them with my Nylon 66 with my buddy on a spotting scope. It's hilarious, whether you shoot well or not it's still tons of fun.

I had a nylon66. That was a great gun! I shot it till it broke. I ran across a 'used' one about a month ago that had never been fired. When I came back with the cash it was gone! Man I wanted that gun BAD!

Long shots are fun. I watched my dad shoot a crow at 137 yards with a 22 short hollowpoint. He walked it in with the first two, the crow never even flinched at the two rounds that fell short.

We have a lot of grasshoppers here in central Texas in the summer. They make great targets if they land in the right spot.

Try wing-shooting dragon flies with bird shot out of a .22 revolver some time, that's actually even more challenging.

Shots like that are just plain awesome. I've taken shots at flying insects on or near my outdoor targets before, though I don't believe I've connected with any... yet.

However, one of my favorite "shots" was as a child with a slingshot. It was a folding Crossman or some powerband type. I smacked a flying junebug out of the air with a white marble at somewhere around 20' at my first attempt. Though it was probably 1/5 skills, 4/5 luck... I didn't attribute any of it to luck when my friends who witnessed the shot were commenting on my "awesome skill".

Hopefully I'll be able to mount a fly's head on my wall as well.

No Bull...plinking with my brother using my Glock 19, I saw a dragon fly about 20-25 feet away...told him to take a crack at it. He shot twice and missed...I raised my G19 and blew him out of the air one shot !! I said to him, O.K. i'm done lets go home !.....
P.S. I'm 73 yrs old been shooting way over 60 years...!st and only time I ever did this...Harold

Shots like these, how do you expect the Boone & Crockett folks to score those kills? Radius of splatter?
