savage 340c 22 hornet chamber face

the chamber face on my 340c in 22 hornet is not flat. i noticed there was a thin lip about .03 higher from 7 o'clock to 1 o'clock on the face of the chamber as you look from the breech down the barrel. i have had this gun for many years but have never noticed this irregularity before.
i am wondering if this is designed or am i seeing something askew?
