Am I crazy?

I've been a rifle shooter for awhile now, and have loved it. However, after getting my first pistol for concealed carry I'm in love with pistol shooting. When I was learning to shoot I was pretty bad with them, but I have taught myself great trigger control to make accurate groups and am now trying to work on speed without jerking the trigger. I even out shot my gf's brother with his 1911 that he shoots all the time. Much to my dismay, I even prefered shooting my handgun over my new XCR, and that cost a pretty penny and took 2 & 1/2 months to get here.

Now I'm considering selling two rifles I don't really care for anymore to buy a new fullsize pistol. This strikes me as a little odd since I used to be hardcore rifle, but oh well. If I sold those two I'd still have my XCR, a shotgun, and a .22 so most of my bases would be covered.

I was considering a browning hi power because I want a single action (9mm is prefered due to cheap ammo). However, I don't know if a stock hi power can use my +p+ ammo. A sig is also a possible. I already have one striker fired pistol and really want a nice clean light trigger and hammer. You guys have any suggestions or comments?

Yesssss, I hear you, Brother. You must give in with your whole heart to the one true gun. Sell your cloak and buy yourself a 1911 in .45 ACP. Nothing too fancy, mind you, maybe some good sights, and an ambidextrous safety. Possibly a grip safety that suits your hands better, and maybe some nicer grips. That's all. Unless you want a larger magazine well funnel, nothing more embarassing than fumbling around on a reload. I mean, you don't have to fool around with all those revolver gadgets so it should be smooth, right? That should do it. Almost forgot, might want some magazine bumpers in case you drop an empty out over concrete, and some for the extra mags you have so you can trade fulls for empties every month or so. Don't want to stress the springs, do we? That's it! It's much simpler than rifle.

Are you going to carry concealed or open? And, you might want to think about what clothing you'll normally be wearing in each season. Dress occasions are a bit different, too, the clothes aren't so bulky, and you'll have to decide whether you can keep your suit coat on or will need to take it off. Really, it's a lot simpler than rifles and requires a lot less money for accessories and such.

You do have a Maxpedition or something similar, don't you? If you don't you need to pick up a pocket gun for the beach. Something polymer and stainless, I'd think.

:D

SIG X5 would be a great range pistol, it is a breathed on P226. Most good 1911s can out shoot and out class even the most revered service pistols. Most, some look like a Pimp's nightmare, ie. Taurus. I own several SIG, Glock, CZ, Beretta pistols and am currently focusing only on the 1911 design. If I could only own three pistols it would be the SIG P226 with night sights 9mm. Colt series 70 1911 .45acp and a Beretta 87 Target .22lr. Or maybe just 3 1911s?

A High Power is a good choice, but they do not recommend running +P+ in them. I have heard that if you get a Hi Power in 40 cal, and put a 9mm slide assembly on the 40 cal's frame, you can run whatever hot 9mm you want in it. That would mean buying two pistols though....not very cost effective.

Have you looked at any 9mm 1911s ?
A 9mm 1911 would give you the nice trigger that you desire, while shooting a cheaper cartridge. I think most of them are rated for +P, not sure about +P+.

A word of caution...

I once went through the same dilemma. Rifles to pistols. Now I appear to be craving more rifles and miss some of my old ones that I sold. None were spectacular or rare, but I liked them and they worked. Take for example, that Marlin 30-30 lever gun that was beat up but true, I sold her once I quit deer hunting and I really miss shooting it. Just be careful what you sell.

I had a couple of Marlin 60's that I kept in the back of the safe. I recently rediscovered my love of 22's. They have seen 10,000 rounds in the past 3 months.

I'm just saying...don't liquidate unless you really have to. :D

Have you looked at any 9mm 1911s ?

Have any you would suggest? The only ones I've seen are either outrageous in price or made by para ordance, and their QC has a questionable record from what I hear.

can use my +p+ ammo. If you feel a need to use +P+ ammo, you need a bigger more powerful caliber then 9mm then.

Well, several question have to be answered by you;

a.) Do you want to use that new one for CCW as well? (SIze)

b.) Are you interested in MAYBE doing some competition shooting? ( IDPA, IPSC, etc..)

c.) Are you stuck on one brand name or origin of manufacture? S&W=USA, Glock =USA/Austria, Springfiled XD=South America, IIRC, etc, etc..

I haven't sold my rifles, but understand where you are coming from. Great 9mms I would recommend are the FNP-9, S&W M&P 9 ProSeries, or any of the STI 9mms on the 1911/2011 chassis. Welcome to the addiction. One Glock that I will purchase when I see it at the right bargain is the G34, which is a competition based 9mm.

Why would you say that? I used to carry +p but was able to get some winchester ranger t-series in a 50 round box for just a little more than a 20 round box of +p (gotta love LEO boxes). I carry a 9mm because I can get a gun that is small enough to carry with extreme comfort and still pack a good amount of ammo.

a) No, I want this one to be full sized, I already have my carry gun for now.
b) Competition shooting would be something I'm interested in. But that would probably be a little later down the road. However, I do have competitions with my shooting friends, so a comp gun is possible.
c) I don't really care for S&W autoloaders. Thats really the only branding that I go by. I like the new FNX-9 over the FNP due to the decocker. Glocks are good, but right now I don't want a striker fired handgun, my ruger sr9c fills that roll for now.

The rifles I'm thinking about selling are nothing special and easily replaced in the future, so no big loss.

Interest are cyclic. A new or former interest brings new challenges and learning that a long followed and/or mastered interest lacks after unbroken time of pursuit.

After a couple years the newness of the pistols will wear off and you will likely be drawn back to rifles, and eventually back to pistols and so on.

IME strong interest of the past will come back as strong as ever, eventually.

I wouldn't sell anything.

-Springfield makes a good 9mm target 1911.

-S&W makes a nice performance center 9mm target 1911, but you said you didn't want a smith.

-I have seen a few Colt 9mm 1911s, but they are not as common as the 45 acp models.

-I have heard excellent reviews of the STI Trojan 9mm. The Trojan 5" 9mm is available at around $1,000. STI also has the Spartan 9mm 1911 at around $500-$600.

If you looking for one of the best 9mm. with soft trigger out of box without any needs of trigger job, I highly advise CZ 75.

It might be CZ 75 SA and if you prefer even you may choose CZ 75 or CZ 75B.

I am very happy with my CZ 75B and I can use it in either way SA and DA..

Cheers..

Mr. Camp's site is a wealth of information regarding the Hi Power. Consider also, the SAS used to to great effect for many, many years.

Sapper 771 pretty much said it all, STI would be and is my choice. Rock Island Arms 1911 9mm for around $400 is about as cheap as it gets and it works.
