Mosin Question

I've had a Mosin for a little while and just decided I'd like to take it apart. For no other reason than because I can. Not new to guns but new to Mosins. I believe those two rings I photographed need to be slid off of the front of the rifle in order to remove the stock. It looks to me as though the rings were already moved forward from their proper placement. I shot it the way you see it with no problems, but I want to know how to disassemble/reassemble the right way.

So my question really is, the rings as pictured are not where the should be, correct?

Well the rear metal ring should definitely be behind those little wings that stick out. You should just look up some pictures.

Brass Rain's got it. The rings sit behind the spring on the rear, and in the little notch on the front one.

your top hand guard is too far forward and so are your barrel bands.

Basically, the larger ring goes all the way back and the smaller fits right into the notch on the front spring. When you slide it back it should just click in place.

Also, when you do this make sure the little openings on the rings are on the botton and the top handguard is slid all the way back till it touches the mount for the rear sight.

Oh, and whereabouts of Florida are you located cbrgator?
If you're anywhere near Daytona/Port Orange I can help you figure the ins and outs of your Mosin.

Sometimes the shellac is extra thick and you have to tap them back into place with a brass hammer.
