Could anyone tell me if this looks cheap or is of reasonable quality?

Would you take one in preference to the standard birch stock?

Apart from rust resistance, is there any other benefit from having the stock stainless barrel?

Depends. It should shoot 1"-2" at 50 yards with that stock and you do your part. Better than minute of tin can or, for that matter, squirrel.

Stock, no need to change unless you wanna get real anal like some of us. You can really redesign that factory stock. Some strip them, trick 'em out with sanders, grinders, or somethig. Ever heard of totalling stripping the finish and dye them with Ritz. Harrr!

Sporter barrel it would not make a difference to me.

Have the paint finish problems on receivers and barrels been ironed out now?
