Can anyone give me a history on the now defunct Hatfield company. I just picked up a Hatfield squirrel rifle on Gunbroker.com and would like to know more about Hatfield.

If you wish to see the rifle, the Auction # is 14075939

I bought a .50 percussion Hatfield in 1990.

It had a nice curly maple stock and a Green Mountian barrel.

The lock was junk.

Later they started using a much better quality lock.

I converted it to flint about 5 years ago and it is still my favorite muzzleloader.

Cornbread, 1990 must have been one of there early production rifles, the article from HK was done around that time. Hope my new one turns out OK. Converting to a flintlock may be something I will try, I don't have any flint's yet.

Before I started taking blackpowder gun building classes, I ordered a rifle from them too. They went under and I went to gun building classes.

You might try contacting Ted Hatfield through the NRA. He is an executive editor in their publication department now.

Thanks DVNovum, I would like to find out what the total production of rifles was. BTW, I have purchased a second rifle now, it looks to be Hawkin style and also is 50 cal. The maple stock is incredible. Did they ever produce a pistol.?
