Well I went Cabelas to buy my son a good 'ol Henry Golden Boy .22 and as i was passing the displays The most beautiful .380 caught my eye! At first it looked gold plated in the case..after I demanded to see it & felt that cold steel on my hands I was SOLD the nickel finish is so exquisite ($599.00 BTW Omaha, NE)! Since home I haven't been able to put down..Can't wait to go out to the parents acreage and fire it off. After researching the gun AFTER I bought it, I noticed a lot of "Do they still make it" Or "I thought they discontinued.." Well I got answers for those but my question is from my serial which is BDA-380 425 MY.....If my research is correct that means the gun was made in 2002? Why was this gorgeous beauty on the shelf for 8 years?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. :D

Just kidding, I wonder if it sat in the back for several years. It does seem rather unlikely that it was for sale for all that time.

How about a photo?

Browning just released some new production BDAs. Perhaps this one was among those, some old stock never shipped until the newer guns were in some demand. MSRP is something around $800, and recently were selling around $700, so you got a pretty good deal at $600.

I didn't realize these were made in Canada. Is that a CAI import mark on the right side?

I just love those guns as well as the Beretta 84 they are a basic clone of.

When the right one comes along at the right price it will probably replace my Hi Power in my carry rotation.

And then I will be another 380 CCWer. Not that it is a bad thing.

It is possibe they were imported through CAI as they were sold by CDNN. I dont know why Browning (which is an importer and not a manufacturer) would not just import them themselves. Unless of course since they were made in Canada they may have had to import them by a different means. Yeah that makes no sense to me either.

I also just bought a Browning BDA 380 at Cabelas in Dundee, MI a week ago. Using the code it showed my gun was manufactured in 2002. I contacted a Browning Customer Service Rep to see if this was correct. She informed me that someone messed up and forgot to change some of the letter in the serial number when they made a run of these guns. She said the correct manufacture on my BDA was Feb 2009. My serial number began with MY01.
Call Browning and they may be able to give you the true manufacture date.
I love my gun. Such a joy to shoot.

Friend Sancho911,

You made a good buy.

I saw that BDA at the Omaha Cabela's about ten days ago. Had any of the counter help been willing to wait on us, my wife would have that rather than you. We found another BDA in Blue at Guns Unlimited, but she became interested in the Beretta 84. Once I realized that I could buy it for her with out the Omaha registration nonsense when my CHP gets here, we decided to wait. The State Patrol said that the permit wait is about three to four weeks......

What makes you think it has been sitting there for 8 years?

No way Cabela's is going to let inventory sit there for 8 years, so they either just got it, it was sitting somewhere else, or it is new to Cabela's from Beretta

I have noticed that cabelas changes guns around the stores. i live 100 miles from one and 120 miles from another cabelas. its funny that i travel both directions for different things so i get to frequent both. i traded in a rifle at one store because it shot like crap. a couple weeks go by. looking through the used guns, the rifle i traded in was at this store.

also the cabelas at omaha, was built in 2006 i think so it couldnt have hanged out in the back for 8 years. maybe at another store.

FWIW, my BDA sat in a box in a dark corner somewhere for 28 years (my dad was killed in a car accident in 1981, and I just got his BDA in 2009). Shoots just fine. ;)
