Setting up new press

Thanks to everyone for the help with my bench setup last week. I have it finished and while I don't really have the tools or experience to make it look really good, it did produce a good solid work surface to start with.

My next question has to do with setting up my Lee Classic Turret. I have the press mounted to the bench and everything seems to be OK there but I was wondering if there is anything I need to do to the dies or to the Pro Auto Disk, both Lee, that I will be getting. Any prep to them before I mount them and start using them?

Thanks for the help,

Just wait and follow directions when you get them.

This is what I did in lieu of a powder dispenser on the turret. I outfitted this funnel and use the Lee Dipper Cups for charging.

Flash that's brilliant, that will save me from buying another powder measure for at least a year.

A virgin funnel is shown on the right. You can see I cut it down to size (used a hacksaw and sanded it flat by dragging it over rough sandpaper laid on a table top). I forget who makes them but you can pick them up cheap on evilBay. The one shown is for 45-70. Others, whose adapter has a smaller lip require a washer between the funnel and cartridge adapter to keep it from pushing through the turret. It's simple to do.

The dies are usually right. The projectile depth needs to be set differently for each projectile. You need to measured how deep each brand/type of projectile sits inside your chamber till it just touches the rifleing. (not sure how this goes for handguns) then measure it and make your overal bullet length a hair shorter. This is done with a tool you can buy or some guys drill out a shell and push the projectile through with a rod. This determines how deep you seat each type of projectile in the shell when you load. I also modified my die to resize the neck of my shells a bit smaller because the Barnes TSX projectiles were too loose.

I would also look into a good lubricant. The Lee lubricant is OK if you want to apply it every second bullet. Ask a the gun store.

I would suggest that you clean the dies before you set them up and use them. Once everything is set up run one hopper full of powder through the pro auto disk before you actually try to adjust it and use it to load. Other than that the LCT is very easy to set up and use. Congratulations and welcome to reloading.
