I know 12 gauge is .729"

And 16 gauge is .66" (more or less)

Can't remember 20 gauge.

Thanks.

Been nagging me for several days. Read something recently that mentioned that 577 NE was basically a 3" 20 gauge brass shell.

Remington has a great soup to nuts shotgun course at: http://www.remington.com/safety/sbc_begin.html

This gauge chart is from there:

FYI - Gauge = number of lead balls of the diameter of the guns bore it takes to make a pound. So for 12 gauge, 12 .727" diameter lead balls make 1 pound.

Tidbit:
You will note from chart:
For shot sizes #9 to #1, the number 17 minus the shot size equals the diameter in inches.
[17-9=.08]
Just in case you don't have a chart, or you need to bet a buddy as to whom is going to buy coffee. :)
-Don't have a similar memory tool for other shot sizes and the like.
