I want one. Never had an HK, heard mostly positive comments, the negatives seem to the mag prices and the full size HK USP 45 is pretty blocky, which doesn't bother me.

Would like to hear experiences from owners, good or bad. I have read you can shoot hard cast bullets at medium velocities through the polygonal barrel, just have to keep it clean. Would really like comments on this.

I love the HK45. Feels great, shoots great, and it's very accurate. Definitely my first choice for a full size polymer .45. Also it has a rubber O ring around the barrel for a tight barrel-slide lockup. I''m pretty sure only the USP Expert has that, maybe the tactical as well.

Only two cons, IMO. One is the capacity. In a tank of a gun like that, I'd like more than 10 rounds. But I guess that's the trade-off in giving it the P30 grip.

The other is bore axis. It's a bit high. But to me the high bore axis is mitigated by Hk's recoil reduction idea.

As far as I know, you can put lead through any polygonal bore you want -- Kahr, Glock, Hk, whatever..... as long as you clean it diligently.

I'll add that a creditable gunsmith told me that H&K pistols are find with lead reloads...he used to shoot them in USPSA competition...but you do have to pay attention when you clean them.

He also said that one of the problems with the Glock, when shooting lead, is that they aren't using a true polygonally rifled barrel

Can you elaborate on that at all?

Polygonal rifling, like that used in H&K rifles and pistols is a polygon, usually pentagon or hexagon, is the shape twisted down the length of the barrel. it is actually formed by compressing the barrel around a bar with the correct shape already formed.

the Glock rifling shape isn't a regular (equal angle) polygon

I had one. Much more comfortable in the grip than a USP. It recoils less than a stainless 5" 1911.

I only sold mine to pay for another purchase, and I just don't shoot 45 too much anymore. Great gun, though.

I thought about getting a G21 (I've owned Glocks in 9 and 40) and borrowed a really tricked out G21 (not the SF) from a friend and liked it a lot, but the accuracy in my hands was not what I expected, but was acceptable.

I understand the HK's are known for their accuracy.

I have an HK45 and I really like it. It isn't too large, and the trade off in mag capacity is worth it for the ergonomics. The mag price is high, but isn't everything connected with the HK brand? My HK45 is as accurate as all but one of my 1911s, an Ed Brown. The HK45 is fun to shoot, and would make a great duty or HD gun. I have heard of those who conceal it.

I have one. I bought it mainly so I could be like Denzel Washington in Book of Eli. That and it has the most ergonomical grip ever and I could shoot it as well as my Les Baer TRS. Only downside is mag prices. Get it, you will not be sorry. I even carry mine in conditiion 1 IWB occasionally.

Best combat 45 made, IMO. I can't begin to think about how many different .45 loads I've had down my HK45, and I've never had anything even near to a failure of any kind.

The only problem with this gun is that it is SO COMFORTABLE to shoot, your day at the range will become VERY expensive. Good luck!
