I'm new to the forum. Would like some opinions on the Kahr K40 .40S&W for CCW. Also, what is the difference between the K40 .40S&W and the Elite of this series in the same caliber? Thanks.

The Elite series have a slightly better trigger and the slides are polished (you can buy the parts from Kahr to upgrade a non Elite the trigger to Elite for less than $50 ... the polymer Kahrs already have the Elite trigger).

I've owned both an MK9 and MK40 (both Elite98s) and the steel Kahrs are definitely my favorites.

They're great carry guns but being steel are a little heavy (if you're used to polymer) but with a good holster it shouldn't matter (I've CCW'd several much heavier pistols over the years).

I carry a Kahr CW9...the economy model...and chose it after shooting several .40s first.

I found the muzzle flip of the .40 objectionable and prefer the shot placement I was getting with the 9mm better. I chose the polymer over the steel because I wanted to try pocket carry

Have had a Kahr K9 for about 14 years now. I don't carry a lot, but it's my favorite carry piece when I do. It is rather heavy for that role. It's also quite accurate and reliable and I love its feel.

It also has a very heavy recoil spring, and racking the slide requires concentration and determination on my part....a little too much determination if you ask me. I understand that this goes along with it's small size and ability to handle +P ammo. Still, it might be a bit too much to contend with when clearing a jam under tense conditions or when injured. I would expect the K40 to be sprung even more heavily than my K9.

i prefer the k (steel Framed models) I have shot the k-40 the p-40, the k-9, p-9 and the p-9 elite.

i owned and shot many rounds through the k-40. mine was one of the older models so it had the nice trigger in it. since then Kahr has been having alot of business with the NYC PD so all of kahr's handguns come with the "NY" trigger, and the way around that is to get the kahr elite series.

All Kahrs now come with the Elite trigger, except for some of the K9 series: Models K9093C, K9093NC, K9094C, and K9094NC are NYPD spec.

Did I read that right? You pocket carry a CW9.

I pocket carry a PM45 and my pocket is full. I have never handled, or even seen a CW model. (KAHR's aren't big around here) I would have thought they were much larger, much to large for a pocket.

My K40 is my EDC gun. I bought it new in 1996. The only malfunction I've ever had was my own fault (I reassembled is wrong, putting the recoil spring in backwards). I lost count of how many round I've fired through it sometime after 3000. It's slim enough to carry very comfortably, it fits my hand and points like it was custom made, and it's more accurate than any pistol of this length has a right to be. I usually carry it with the standard 6-round mag in the gun (7 shots with one in the chamber) and a 7-round spare mag. I don't have the Elite trigger, but I did add a 5 lb striker spring from Wolff and it really made for a sweet trigger.

BTW, Wood grips on a steel Kahr are a must (go with the checkered, I had checkered wood grips on my MK9 and smooth wood on my MK40 and the checkering makes the pistol stick in the hand nicely).

If I were only allowed ot keep one semi-auto pistol, my K40 would be it.
I love that gun. Super accurate, recoil is totally tolerable, quick back on target, no failures yet, and it completely disappears under a t-shirt.

Oh, and the trigger is the smoothest DA I've ever felt (apart from DA pull on my model 19).

Yup, it is just a hair taller than my S&W 642, because of the deep base plate.

The smooth exterior makes it more practical for pocket carry than the similar sized Springfield EMP...besides being DAO...in my 5.11 front pant pocket
