WAS LOOKING on the web and found this posted here about 6 months ago

thought i would toss talons in the mix and see were they land now days

i tossed in the mix the evil BLACK TALONS

what one out of the 3 would you think are better as PD rounds,

i found some PDX1 at WM for $22 thought that was a deal ,

as the gun shows had them for $30 and up.

talons were $50 and up.

i know the talons are around 20 years old and some say RANGERS took there place .

tossed a few others in as well just because.

anyway what one would you use if all worked good in your gun.

gun in question is a XD45ACP

IF they used sealant on the TAP, I'm sold fully....but they don't. Everything else about the round was solid when I had them, and they are the most accurate I've ever run through my 1911s. If you are ok without the sealant that would be my choice. I changed to GS, and feel quite confident with them as well.

Reason btw factory says that it gums up the action.

Black Talons are the victim of poor marketing and unscrupulous news reporting.

They're a first gen hollowpoint. Not the best, but certainly not the evil spinning blades of certain death and maiming that they're made out to be.

PDX1 combines good penetration, good expansion, reliable feeding (in everything I've fed them to) and a decent price.

I personally carry hydra-shok in my .45, but since that isnt a listed choice I chose TAP as that is my preferred carry in my .40. Black Talons were great in their day, but that day is long gone with 20 years of research and improvement in the hollow point industry, I am betting no-one would still LIKE to be hit by one, and if I had some I wouldnt feel undergunned but IMHO, there is better to be had nowadays.

I dropped Hydra-shoks for 230 gr HSTs.

And they weren't worth a crap at .45 ACP velocity when they were on the market.

very true. the original black talons were poor performers in all calibers. they're mostly famous due to lib-**** media hype.

I called Winchester regarding some 9mm I bought (Ranger 124 +p RA9BA) and the rep confirmed what I thought....PDX1 is the same as Ranger RA9BA. They are both 124 gr, +p and bonded.....though you can find 50 rd boxes of Ranger for around $27.00 if you look hard enough....or just Google them. I bought 200 rds of them for the cost of 100 rds of PDX1.
I know your asking about .45, but look around and you can probably find the same thing for for 1/2 the price without the fancy box.

I've recently switched to the new Winchester PDX-1 bonded hollowpoints in my .45 ACP handguns, since they fed reliably in both my 5" and 3" 1911s and shot well too.

For my custom, 3 1/4" barreled S&W 25-2, I still stoke it with 230 gn. Federal HydraShoks due to Federal 150 large primers being the surest ignition primers to use in custom competition revolvers with very light trigger pulls. However, it had no trouble either with both Remington Golden Saber and the forementioned PDX-1 stuff.

Should add Federal HST and Ranger Talon series as imo these are the 2 best rounds out, Even Gold dots beat most of what in the poll.

Anyhow i use Ranger Talons in my .40 and .45 ccw weapons.

RA45T, a product very similar to "Black Talon" but without the Lubalux (and therefore not black). It's my choice for all my .45acp pistols, especially since I puchased gobs of it cheap and don't shoot much these days.

Ding ding ding...we have a winner!
Iff'n I was going to vote, I'd have voted cheapest thing I can find in a quality round, but since that wasn't a choice...

No 20/25 round boxes for me. :barf:
