Handgun for my dad??

So my dad is wanting to buy a handgun to use for a few things. The things he told me to keep in mind.

$500 roughly
Something he can carry concealed
Shoot it at the range and not have his wrists hurt
Relatively cheap to shoot

He does have an older .38 special revolver as well. I told him carry the 38 in the summer and the new handgun in the winter. Iwould also stay away from something 3" sub compact style and go more towards a 3.5 or 4" barrel. I plan on showing him...

he wants new and is willing to go up towards the $600 range but would like to be in the 500 range.

Small enough for reasonable cc, comes with 13+1 capacity standard, but with the S&W mag adapter it will accept (happily actually) the 15rd mags of the 5906.

Having weak wrist concerns myself, I can attest to the Px4 and their rotating barrel that, along with the lighter weight of the polymer frame, make recoil very docile in either 9mm, 45, or 40cal..

Large, flush fiiting mag loads as well in States that allow "normal use"..

Easy on the hands/wrist for quick disassembly, inspection, cleaning, and reassembly - key

Great DA/SA triggers that break in quick and just get better and better with use and very accurate right out of the NIB for around 500 - 600

And, with the 3 back straps they come with, getting the right grip/feel is appreciated.

Have owned my Px4 40 for just over 3yrs with just over 11k "flawless rounds" thus far..

I'd look at the M&P9c.

The 9mm is about as cheap as you can get for factory ammunition, at least in my area.

The M&P series is really soft shooting.

I work for an agency that is starting our 5th year with around 1,200 9mm M&P's in the field. No pattern of any issues so far. I trust mine...

thanks everyone...that 6906 is sweet. makes me want one! Hrmm...maybe we will just have to both buy one at the same time. haha. I would love to have him shoot a few but the issue is I live in Colorado and he lives in Massachusetts. :( Not to conducive to us going to the range together. We are going shooting when I am back in 4 weeks though.

The Ruger SR9c would fit the bill great and they can be had for ~$400.

Hello, What about a CZ 82. High cap mag, low cost, cheap ammo, unfiniky maintenance and dead on accuracy.

I second the SR9

I have two 1911's and carry them the majority of the time (full size and micro compact)

I have a SR9, full size. 9mm is cheap, the gun feels great, 17 +1, feels like a 1911 so its not fat.

the SR9c came out after I got the SR9 (it was a gift from my co workers) Ruger didnt just shorten the barrel and grips, when you conceal carry you only have to worry about the grips, the barrel is in your pants. So when they made the SR9c they made the barrel shorter but not too short, but did make the grip shorter.

Then to make it easier to shoot, a second magazine has a grip extention on it.
