My grandpa left me his shotgun when he died 20 years ago. I've had it, but rarely use it. It was beaten up by my uncle. The trigger guard is gone. The trigger is broken off on the end so that you pull a tiny stub instead of a full trigger. And the stock is split near the grip. Other than that, it functions perfectly. :) (But it kicks like a mule!)

What I would like to do is restore it a bit. The problem is, I can't seem to find anything to help me out on this one. Since it is so old, there are no pictures or diagrams for what it should look like (trigger-wise). I'm not really sure if the stock is right or not either. The butt plate sticks out all the way around the wooden stock about 1/8".

Is there anywhere that I can find pictures or anything to help me match it up? If I need to make a trigger guard, at least I'd like to make it similar to the original.

It is a 16 gauge Springfield Model 1929 break action single shot shotgun.

Oh, and I know it isn't worth much in dollars. That doesn't matter. It is just worth a lot in sentimental value - one of the few things I will pass to my kids from their great-grandpa.

Nothing?
Wow! I thought that the internet had almost everything on it. I can't find anything about the model on wikipedia either.

It's an old J. Stevens/Savage gun. What else did you want to know about it? lol

You can hit gunbroker and find steel parts all day long, but wood is going to be a Holy Grail item for you. Vintage wood will cost you an arm and a leg and 99% of the time it's crap. Wood shrinks and cracks with age so even the best vintage is almost always a waste of time. Sounds like yours is shrunken pretty good. No one makes repro wood for those guns.
